The reason to go toe Plains Camp is for the walking safari. Getting your feet on the ground in the bush is a unique experience. It is by no means an adrenaline pumping activity. You do try to keep your distance from dangerous animals by walking in open terrain. Getting into the bush though gives you a different respect and appreciation for the landscape. You also get to see watering holes and lakes that are otherwise inaccessible. One other thing that is often under appreciated is the small wildlife you get to see while walking. We found a large chameleon and an elephant shrew that lives in a nest in a small plant. Would not have seen those things driving. Sleeping on the platforms at Plains Camp is a special experience as well. You walk in at sunset, have a cocktail, and watch rhino and elephant drink at the watering hole. Our guides then prepared a fantastic dinner for us. Definitely a nice variation from the standard lodge. Plains camp itself is very beautiful. It is set at the base of an open field that has a watering hole at the opposite end. All sorts of animals roam into the field. The main tent is a fantastic place to sit and enjoy your surroundings.
