We arrived at 10.30pm for an overnight stay, having just flown in to Cape Town and prior to leaving for a tour of the Western Cape the following day. Despite having paid for our rooms (2 doubles) and having confirmation and vouchers to prove such, they claim they had no reservation ( only a mispelt name in a cancelled booking!?) After nearly one hour with four or five reception staff fiddling with the computer and no joy, we asked if they had vacant rooms and simply booked and paid for (again!) two rooms. After a long flight (a delayed bag, still in Amsterdam) and no beds for the night initially - we asked the way to the bar and for food service only to find this ceased at 11pm!
The rooms were clean and spacious and the bathroom clean. Breakfast the following morning was superb - an excellent choice and wonderful quality. Although the waiting on staff were slow to clear used tables for other guests to utilise.
On checking out we requested taxis to our car hire depot and by some wonderful mismanagement by the porters found ourselves (4 adults, three large suitcases and various smaller hand baggage) piled into a mid-size saloon, whilst two other travellers with no baggage took seats in a 7/8 seater mini bus!!!
Several hours later, we heard via our travel agent, to whom we had complained that the Hotel, had now "found" our booking and were refunding the credit card with the amount we had additionally paid. Two weeks later the card has yet to be refunded..........
The location seemed out of the way for tourists, but as were thankfully were not there for long, it mattered not.
Having stayed at three other Hotels during our stay - find the Garden Court by far the most inefficient and would not consider staying again.
