Just back from the busy centre of the Victoria & Albert Harbour bars and restaurants is the lovely quiet Portswood Hotel. Nice big rooms with great amenities (particularly loved the cooling peppermint foot cream) and an easy walk to the action on the waterfront.

Service was impeccable and the doorman greeted us by name every time we passed. The restaurant was once a part of an old prison and is stuffed full of history. The breakfast is fantastic!

Recommended highly.

Very friendly, approachable and professional staff. Good breakfast. Very conveniently located near to the waterfront. The rooms are like an upmarket Travel Lodge (UK), clean, flat screen tv with everything you need but not super luxurious. We were upgraded to a suite as we were on honeymoon. Would recommend this hotel. Cape Town is stunning!

“Very friendly welcome and comfortable room”

The PortsWood Hotel

We had a great stay at the Portswood from the very friendly welcome right through to when we checked out. The room was very comfortable and the in-house restaurant served delicious Cape Malay food. The staff gave us good ideas to make the most of our limited time in Cape Town. We would recommend this hotel.

We stayed in the Portswood for a week while running a conference in a conference centre on the Waterfront.
The rooms were very comfortable, clean and efficiently serviced daily and sometimes twice in the day. The staff could not have been more friendly - from the porters to room staff to restaurant staff to management. I chose the hotel from reports on Trip advisor and it was the friendliest and most welcoming hotel I have stayed in for many years. Thanks to my fellow travellers for the recommendation. If you want luxury then perhaps there's another hotel for you but if you want a good, honest, friendly, clean, upmarket hotel convenient for the Waterfront at a very competitive price then I doubt any other hotel could beat it.

My wife and I had our honeymoon in Cape Town and unfortunately we were dissapointed. The unfortunate thing was that we had our money and MP3 player stolen whilst our luggage was in the supposed care of the hotel as we were on a trip to Kruger Safari Park. Theft is huge at this hotel as I spoke to the Police and the Hotel porter about our situation. The hotel turns a blind eye and dissmisses any wrong doings of it's staff, which it blatantly knows is thieving it's guests! Also the area is where a lot of robberies and attacks happen within Cape Town. You are told to walk home via one direction, as the other can be deadly! Apart from that, the hotel is average, serving decent breakfast, however the rooms and tiny shady swimming pool make this a 3 star hotel at best. Not worth the money considering you will leave the hotel with less money and valuables as you did before entering! To top it off, the incompetent staff also 'lost' our laundry. Again, another way of theft that is brushed under the carpet! I will not reccomend this hotel at all! Please feel free to contact me to learn more.
