The Ocean View Guest House is a owner-run bright and rather cute B&B in Bakoven. It is nestled in a nice garden half level between the ocean and the 12 Apostles.
I have to admit, that its location is really special, with a stunning ocean view in front of you and an awesome mountain behind you. Yet it is not right next to a bathing beach nor really near the city. It is a 3 minutes drive to the Camps Bay Promenade and a 15 -20 minutes drive to the V&A Waterfront or to City Bowl, so that having a car is essential. It's location is both its advantage as its downside. If you prefer calmer beach side guesthouses with a metropolis within reach of a couple of minutes, this is your accomodation. When we were ther at the end of winter, it was mainly the good deal we had got that made us stay there.
The rooms were very tidy and their sizes was okay. In comparisson to other hotels we had stayed in South Africa, they were nothing special for their price. Being there off season also made us feel a bit disconnected from the action. I also think that they had downsized their staff, because many times the front desk was not occupied. The breakfast was okay, but nothing to shout about.
The hotel is run by a German owner, and being German myself, I missed a bit of the South African hospitality we have encountered before. The service was a bit formal, correct but not always so warm hearted as it was in other places we have stayed.
All in all a nice guesthouse at a very special location, but not a place I would go to in the winter - it is a summer accomodation, and as such it should be very nice.
