My fiancee and I stayed at the Derwent house for 3 nights of our trip to South Africa. We really enjoyed our stay and were very impressed with what this hotel had to offer. The owners Carol and Jo, have thought of all the 'little' things that would totally make your stay!! From blanket warmers, to DVD movies, delicious night snacks, and weather reports.
Carol and the hotel staff were very hospitable. When it came to planning what to see and do in the Cape town area, Carol made great recommendations; especially where to find the good eats within walking distance.
We would definitely come back and stay at the Derwent next time we visit South Africa!

We visited Derwent House for 3 nights at the start of our holiday in March this year and returned on our last day before flying back home. Jo and Carol were fantastic hosts (nothing was too much trouble). The hotel itself is boutique in style yet home from home - we had the self catering suite as we have a 7 year old. We arrived late at night and there were fresh sandwiches and cakes in the fridge! All the little extras make such a difference to your holiday including a pick up from the airport! I can't recommend this hotel enough and the location is just perfect - in a quiet side street but near to the centre and many great restaurants. It thoroughly deserves its number one spot! We will definitely return on our next visit.

We recently spent 5 nights at the Derwent House Hotel in Cape Town. This has to be one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at.

Carol arranged transfer from the airport on arrival. We were given a warm welcome and our beautifully furnished room had the most spectacular views of Table Mountain.

The hotel is furnished with great taste and style. The guest kitchen with a wide variety of acoloholic and non alcoholic beverages on a trust basis was thoughtful. Breakfasts were excellent.

Carol and Jo were always available and offered excellent advice on the city and more locally on the excellent restaurants situated nearby.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Derwent House to people visiting Cape Town. The hotel is situated about 15 minutes from the waterfront ( book your taxi through the hotel they were always cheaper and of a higher standard).

When we return to Cape Town we will most certainly be staying at Derwent House.

“A true home from home”

We stayed at Derwent House for 8 days split over 2 trips and really can't recommend it highly enough. We were having a bit of a traumatic time whilst staying there and Jo and Carol couldn't have been more helpful and really made us feel at home.

The location is good. It's a quiet, residential area, but is just round the corner from all the restaurants on Kloof St and close to the cable car station. We felt completely comfortable walking at night to the restaurants.

Breakfast was very good. Particularly liked the fruit salad.

The rooms are lovely and the beds are huge and very comfortable. Lovely little touch (and very important in Cape Town's weather!) to get chocolates and the next day's weather forecast on the bed every night.

The communal areas are beautifully decorated, packed with guidebooks and home to the free teas, coffee, cakes (yum!!), port and sherry, as well as the honesty bar. And guests actually use these areas which is probably one of the things which makes it feel much more homely.

And the best thing was the non-stop flow of helpful advice and information. Jo and Carol make lots of recommendations for restaurants, bars and trips and will make bookings for pretty much everything you want to do. We only had to say that we were looking to hire a car and the next thing we knew it was being delivered to the hotel in a few hours (and at a very reasonable rate!). And when we went to explore the wine region we got a hand-drawn map with specific recommendations of vinyards to visit.

Absolutely wonderful - thanks Carol & Jo!!

We finished our holiday by staying at the Derwent House after a recommendation from a friend who stayed there and what a way to end the trip! It was like coming home, but nicer!!! Jo and Carol cannot do enough for their guests with the warmest of welcomes, the biggest smiles, delicious chocolate cake in the afternoon, relaxed setting, fantastic rooms, you would know that they have put their heart and soul into the place. The hotel is simply amazing and you will not be disappointed, I will be staying there again on my next trip to Cape Town for sure!!!
