Elephant Hide, Kynsna is a wonderful guest house offering 6 individual wooden lodges overlooking the lagoon. Beautifully in keeping with its surroundings, the lodges are delightfully luxurious. From the loo with a view, a jacuzzi bath and wet room to the enormous bed, verandah and mini-bar. The breakfasts were fantastic and the hospitality of all the staff was wonderful.

Just a word of advice though - double check that they have made your reservation for dinner. We had a problem with one where the restaurant claimed that the reservation hadn't been made - but the guest house claimed they had. We were caught in the middle and it rather soured the meal. Which was a pity because the restaurant (34 Degrees South) was very quirky and it should have been enjoyable.

If you like a bit of a thrill you must get the guest house to book you onto the Treetop Adventure at Storms River. For someone who won't go on rides at Theme Parks, I amazed myself with this one!

The only downside (and this probably applies to the whole of Knysna) is the N2. It is a very busy road and the trucks use it all day and all night. Whilst Elephant Hide is a long way from the road, the sound of traffic is always there. But, like I said, this is probably true for all of Kynsna.

Apart from that - Elephant Hide is a hidden gem. Enjoy!

Had 5 nights at Elephant Hide, but only managed to use the pool once due to poor weather. When it rains here it pours. No restaurant, but excellent food in Knysna itself or just down the road. Elephant hide is about 2 miles from the centre.

We had a lovely room ( room 1) which had a beautiful bathroom. The staff were very friendly and breakfast was enormous.

Only downside was some road noise from the busy N2 which is below the lodge.

This is a wonderful lodge to stay in and highly recommended.
The main lodge and each individual lodge is beautifully constructed and decorated with natural timber and fibres. The attention to detail is excellent, especially in the wonderful bathrooms with lovely bath salts and bubbles to use in the spa bath whilst enjoying a cold drink from the mini bar whilst watching the sun set over the lagoon. The hospitality was great with a family feel and Fish could not do enough to help us.
Something a bit different and highly recommended.

My wife and I have just returned from a trip to Cape Town and the Garden Route. In Knysna we stayed at the Elephant Hide Lodge. Secluded and set on a hill overlook ing the lagoon accommodation is in individual lodges which have been cleverly designed so that you have total privacy from every window and from the jet bath and double showers. The sleeping area has large king beds with unobstructed views of the lagoon. Breakfast is taken in the main lodge building which has a terrace complete with infinity pool. The EHL is a family affair and all members give a very personal and attentive service. Within a 2 minute drive of the Waterfront it is an unbeatable place to stay. We'd give it a 5 star rating.
