This spot is probably one of the Matie favourites. Situated on the corner of Ryneveld – and Dorp Street, many visit this bar, not only for their wine and beer, but also for their roosterkoeke. Hidden away behind a great oak tree one might miss it at first glance, but looking a little closer one will find this small Afrikaans bar filled with many interesting characters.
Their menu, mainly Afrikaans, doesn’t only provide you with food and drinks, but also some entertainment. You will find their gourmet roosterkoeke is mainly Suid-Afrikaans inspired, with names like Madiba, Jacob Zuma and Paul Kruger which offers some foodie amusement. You can even design your own roosterkoek, and while waiting, why not play some Sudoku?
Even though their food is marvellous, it is not the sole reason they attract one. It is a combination of their hospitality, undisturbed and old-school Afrikaans vibe, along with the great menu that makes this place much worth your while.
