We were recommended and booked in here by the hotel we are staying in. When I went on Trip Advisor I almost cancelled the booking. I’m glad I didn’t.

A wonderful setting, we were seated at a window table on the first floor over-looking the courtyard. The building and decor is eclectic, wine themed with a sort of Colonial charm.

Service was friendly and prompt. The food was superb. My Fillet steak was as good as I have eaten anywhere on the planet. Cooked to perfection it melted in the mouth and the sauce was perfectly balanced with none of the stickiness you often associate with heavy sauces.

The fries were crispy and I didn’t hear anyone complaining! The poor reviews are so far removed from our experience that I would have to question their validity.

Price is subjective and I usually wouldn't comment but a number of recent of writers stated the restaurant as being very expensive. Take it from me it isn’t. I was a bit nervous walking in having not made the booking myself or studied the menu in advance. There was no need to worry. 3 of us were well fed for a modest sum.

A great meal and I would have no hesitation in returning.

We visited last week with guests from the USA and UK.
The greeting by Annetjie, the Manager, was sarcastic and most unwelcoming.
However, the evening was saved by the extremely friendly and efficient waitress, Anee.
The food, especially the Kingklip and Veal dishes, were delicious and of a high standard.
During our evening, we experienced ESKOM's load shedding, but Anee coped extremely well in the darkness, even to helping us down the staircase on our departure.
Thank you Anee for a most enjoyable evening.

booked for us by our guest house, this was a good place to eat, central location, wide variety of food, lively atmosphere, but you would need to book a table as its very popular.

We made reservations to have dinner here one evening and found the food to be quite average.

We were served by quite an unfriendly waitress. She didn’t come to check how the meal was going. We had to flag other waiters done if we needed anything and even when we needed the bill.

I had the chicken schnitzel with pasta and found it extremely dry. I had to request extra sauce just to make it more edible. My other colleagues had the calamari and the other the steak and also found their meals quite average.

They do have an extensive wine menu but I doubt we will go back to this restaurant. Not really worth the price or wait.

I have avoided the Wijnhuis for a number of years after having experienced less than average service there. As i work n the hospitality industry, I decided to give it another try. Unfortunately the service is worse than before. On taking my concerns to the manageress I was told by her that I was welcome to try another place. It is such a shame that this restaurant with such a wonderful setting is nonchalant toward their clientele. I won't be recommending to my clientele.
