I do not understand why this trail is not advised in guide books, it is absolutely gorgeous
As you leave the asphalt road in the village of Taninga, you get on a dirt road (ripio) that leads you through a gorgeous plain, with a totally different vegetation than what you get in the area, palm trees, scrubs, etc, its all flat apart from one cone, an old volcano, that sticks out.
In the background you have a range of sierras (mountains), it takes you about 50 kms to get there.
Once you've reached the top, and gone through the first tunnel (the series of tunnels were built in the 1930s) you get an awesome view on the valley. It's all flat until the horizon line, and dark green.
The scenery to which you will be confronted would seem more appropriate in some parts of South Africa (you're waiting to see some giraffs sticking out) or Brazil.
Not to be missed if you can go, better if you have your own car instead of a tour bus.
In Las Palmas, a very small "village" that you will go throught before reaching the sierras, you have Las Nonas which is a restaurant in a beautiful surrounding, the couple who owns it are adorable, really worth the stop
