I visited this spot at least three or four times for wonderful luncheons during my twelve or so days in Mendoza.
Stepping into this restaurant, one instantly feels the history behind it. It is as if things have not changed since it opened a mid-century ago. Most of the professional and very attentive waiters were at least double my age (obviously, having worked at the same restaurant from their early adult years onwards). The décor of the large dining room has not changed all that much, either. The establishment seems frozen in a gentler time, a more civilized era.
I found this place by chance, and for whatever reason, it seems that all major guide books do not even bother mentioning it. (Why there is no mention of this restaurant is beyond my understanding, as it is a slice of Mendoza life!) This establishment is a must visit, primarily for their simple yet refined Italian-Argentine cuisine.
The service is another reason to visit. The elder proprietors (I think they are brothers) at least make an effort to walk past tables and say a cheery hello, or, help with service from time to time, always with a comforting smile. Their wine list is quite substantial, and like the food menu, prices are extremely affordable. Finally, if you are a respectable client, drink at least a bottle or two of wine with your meal, and order a reasonable amount of food and do not complain or make a fuss, you will be treated to their own homemade limoncello to enjoy after your meal with a proper espresso.
In short, this place is just so wonderfully, and hopelessly old-fashioned. Other tourists can go to other restaurants in town, but, I am sticking to this place the next time I visit Mendoza, as it was my favourite luncheon spot, without doubt.
