Fabulous stay 8/31 to 9/6. Can't say enough about how beautiful the views are from the hotel with surrounding mountains of scottsdale area. Hotel staff is very professional and pleasant. I agree, not the fastest, but they make it up with being friendly. This place has what I call "good Zen". You can arrive there stressed or tired and within a day feel totally relaxed. There is just SOMETHING about the location, the setting, the soft music everywhere, the tranquility, ---that just makes it special. We traveled last minute from the east coast and are used to nothing but the best hotels. While the rooms are plain, but adequate, the beauty of the grounds make up for it. The pools ARE great. Our kids, 7 and 9 had a fantastic time and met plenty of other kids. The clock tower with three story water slide makes the place for kids and dads of all ages. Plenty of things to do---or you can do nothing at all. The staff everywhere was terrific. Thruout labor day weekend they had different entertainment at night in a great lobby setting. They also had native american activities for kids including dancing for all to enjoy one afternoon. Kids made bead bracelets, learned about native american culture. Nice addition.
Spa was nice, but expensive. I found some of it to be more expensive than the Bellagio in Las Vegas but not as nice. MY daughter and I had a manicure and pedicure and spent $357----personally, wouldn't do it again. Didn't last. However, the ladies working the salon and spa are very nice, as are most employees. Found only one employee at front desk who wanted to charge me extra if I checked out after 1:00PM. That was a first anywhere I've ever stayed,-----I found it in poor taste considering he knew my flight was late that night, I had kids and they wanted to swim, and there was almost no one else staying on my entire floor by then,---in fact the hotel was at 24% occupancy after the holiday weekend. So I know they did not need the room immediately. I just found it in poor taste, especially after giving them quite a bit of business during our stay. While unpleasant momentarily, this incident did not dampen our mood nor did it change our opinion of the staff or the hotel. We'd return in a heartbeat and will be doing so in the future. Certainly nice enough to return.
Scottsdale has tons of restaurants and shops. You cannot be bored. Old Scottsdale is very quaint and filled with galleries and shops. Visit the Rusty Spur--old west saloon. Maggiano's restaurant in Scottsdale is as good as Carmine's in NYC.
Get to Sedona if you can or make arrangements to stay there one or two nights. It's a two hour drive from Hyatt in Scottsdale but easy to do and absolutely beautiful. You will be changed forever to drive through such vastness and then majestic red rock mountains in Sedona. We met people who visited and never left or went back home and returned to stay. That's just the kind of place it is. Very special.
So, don't hesitate to go if you haven't yet. It's an experience.
