The Fairmont maintains a wonderful getaway in this Scottsdale Princess Resort & Spa.
The rooms, although shaped oddly, were quiet, comfortable and perfect for our vacationing family of 3. We had a king size bed with a sofa bed for our son, spacious outdoor patio and large bathroom and walk-in closet. The decor was updated, tasteful and made us feel right at home.
The property itself is quite large so our son loved walking around and seeking out all of the special amenities that the property had from a giant waterfall wall to multiple fishing ponds, a bocce ball area to a basketball sports court - not to mention the 3 large pools. There was also a huge outdoor bar/lounge area that looked really nice and refreshing. It had misters going in the evening to keep the temperature down but we never really saw that many people sitting out there oddly.
The main pool is mellow and mixed with families, couples and single folks. It had these wonderful pool-side beds for lounging and watching our son swim about. There were plenty of umbrellas on hand to provide shade if you needed it, and the wait-staff was very attentive and helpful.
The sports pool had water volleyball and lap lanes for those that wanted to make a workout out of their pool time. And on Friday, Saturday nights they show movies at this pool and have smores roasting for all to enjoy.
The kids pool has a zero entry shallow area for the little tikes, then twists and turns over to two large waterslides that dump into 5 foot water. This is a popular area and a ton of fun for the whole family.
La Hacienda was the mexican restaurant on-site and it was amazing. We traveled in from Texas so we know our mexican food, but this was truly top notch. From the pomegranate margaritas to the perfectly cooked skirt steak - we enjoyed everything!!
Bourbon Steak was the fancy restaurant on-site and though it had pretty good food, it was not all that it was hyped up to be. The atmosphere was very cold and futuristic almost. Prices were outrageous and not worth the dining experience that we had anyway.
The Grill & pool food was on par for normal resort pool food. Sandwiches, salads, burgers, etc. Perfectly fine to nosh on while you were at the pool and didn't want to get up and go off-site. There were a ton of wonderful restaurants in the area however - we had a rental car so we took advantage of eating off-site many times. Just down the road is a very large shopping complex near the Westin property that has restaurants, ice cream, shopping and more. They have misters throughout so day or evening it was a comfortable, walkable area.
This spa is highly rated and written about - and it was absolutely top notch. The spa complex itself was very large and had many areas to retreat, relax and recharge. The staff and services were wonderful and worth the $500 I dropped! The private spa pool on the roof was awesome, and the outdoor waterfall grotto was one of a kind.
My husband did play one of the two courses associated with this property. Unfortunately, one course was closed for all of July for maintenence. This was not noted on their website which would have been helpful info. to have. He said the golf was just ok, and drove to the Four Seasons course the next day to play Troon North (which was in his words "totally awesome").
Overall, this property was exceptional. The views, the sprawling grounds, the wild bunnies and bats, and fresh flowering gardens. We enjoyed that the property was not jam packed with people vacationing or at a conference. We never had to hunt for a place to sit at the pool or wait for a table at any meal. We visited for a week so we maximized our time at the resort during the week and planned off-site activities on the weekends when the property filled up with weekenders and a lot more single folks. It was a very fun and relaxing family vacation. We would return to this area and this property again for sure.
