West Fork is a good hike, just know what you are getting in to... First of all $9 to park??? So much for "natural" sights, Sedona will hit you up for every single thing you do - oh, and $1 for a map, what a joke! Don't get it, you don't need it! I think you pay for the priveledge of the bathrooms - if you can call it that.
This hike is listed as level, easy and 3.3 miles. Well, it is, SORT OF. If you want to hike to the end where the pools of water and the canyons meet - it is 4.65 miles and the last 1.3 miles is up & down very rocky hills. This would have all been fine with me, IF someone would have told me that. We were 2.5 miles in when we talked about whether to finish. We had less than a mile to go, right??? NO. We were only 1/2 way there and that tacks on about 2.5 miles to the whole hike. Again, I would have been more prepared.... more water, some food, etc.
That being said, if you are prepared, want (and can) walk that far, it is worth it. Beautiful canyons come together where there is water to wade through. Nothing deep enough to swim in. Take water shoes and a washcloth or hand towel to dry your feet and change back into hiking shoes.
In total, you cross over 13 creeks during this hike. All have rock paths - you may or may not make all 26 crossings with dry feet. My husband wore sandals that he just got wet (smart on that day, but blisters that night) The other 3 wore tennis shoes which 2 stayed dry and one slipped off a log and was wet for 12 of the last crossings. Your pick!
Have a good hike, just be prepared
