Summary: horrible customer service, comforter smelled of urine and the heated pool was freezing. More details? Read on.

Picture this, Memorial Day Weekend in Sedona, who could ask for a more beautiful location. On the way to the hotel, about 1 pm, I called and said we were almost there, could we get an early check in, the voice of Roz from Monsters Inc says, "We have too many rooms to clean - so no." Nice - as a frequent hotel-visitor, I am accustomed to, "come on over, we'll see what we can do - if anything, you can leave your luggage and we'll get you checked in later." This was "no." Nice. So, we did our Sedona thing, Crescent Moon Ranch, Red Rock State Park, got red-mud muddy and filthy wanting a quick shower before an early dinner (had my 5 year old daughter and 70 year old father with me). Remembering the voice of Roz telling me no- we went to Javelina Cantina (good food - in the Hillside shopping center) filthy. Fortunately, they are so used to crazy tourists they went ahead and seated us after looking us up and down, knowing just what we had been up to. So, we went to check in, and after requesting a room either close to an elevator so my Dad could get up to our room, we were placed on the second floor with no easy way to the room without going up 3 (count'em 3) flights of stairs. All rooms at ground level were taken - lovely. We got into our room to change into swim suits to swim in the "heated" pool. As a person who hates cold, I was relieved when I heard it was heated. When I got into the pool, my lips turned blue and I got out. With the pleading of my 5 year old, I got back in and went to lean on the nearest "heated" jet. Every 3 minutes, a spurt of warm water would shoot out and then cycle back to cold. So, instead of subjecting my entire family to cold swimming water, my family (with a very upset child in-tow) went back to our room. We got our pj's on and snuggled down to get a movie and fall asleep. When I laid down and pulled the comforter up, it smelled like urine, yes, urine. At that point, with my less than stellar experience with the customer service at the hotel, I simply took the comforter off, used the spare blanket from my car and went to sleep. The next morning, we got up and went to breakfast and finish our sight seeing. We were walking around Bell Rock and it was getting close to check out time so I called again to ask if we could get a hour later check out so we could finish up at that area without rushing back. Again, the customer service was horrible - no, no late check outs- too many rooms to clean. So, my 5 year old and 70 year old hiked ourselves back to the car, packed up and was out 1 minute before checkout. In this economy, one would think that every customer is valuable but Radisson does not believe so.

We could not be more sorry for Ms. Brooks' just concerns. I will respond to this post by copying the exact response I personally sent to her the day she notified us through our Radisson satisfaction survey:

Dear Ms. Brooks:

I much appreciate you taking the time to complete our survey regarding your recent stay with us. I am so very sorry for your totally unacceptable experience at our hotel. I will not begin to make any excuses, because there is no excuse for the ways in which we let you down. You feedback has been personally walked to the departments which failed you and corrective action is already underway.

As a gesture of apology and goodwill, as I can not expect a guest to pay for such a poor experience. I will be refunding your payment in full, including the movie ($---.--) On behalf of our entire staff here at the Poco Diablo Resort I wholeheartedly apologize for the just concerns you had.

With the help of your feedback, if we are fortunate enough to have you return to our property, I know we will exceed your expectations and, will hope to gain your loyalty.

Sincerely,
Michael Steinhart

“Overpriced Who Ha Hotel”

Radisson Poco Diablo Resort

22 May 2008

After reading that the resort had renovated rooms we figured to give it a shot. Our room type was incorrectly reserved by the main Radisson reservations line, so we did not get a poca vista room as we expected and requested. Upon check in we were told it was booked as another room type. We stayed in a Jacuzzi room which seemed nice but had issues. Apparently this room was the same price so we figured to give it a shot, hey no big deal. It seems the Radisson reservationists has very little info to review the different rooms and can't explain many features accurately. Our sleep number bed did not seem to inflate properly and made it next to impossible to stay set and be comfortable. I believe this bed was the low end style sleep number bed. The room had a fire place, however since it was struggling I was worried about it not burning correctly and decided not to use it at all. The Jacuzzi was in the main sleeping area and was set so the controls for the tub could not be reached while sitting in the tub or even standing in the tub. You had to walk over to a wall switch to get it the jets turned on. Or to reset the 12 minute timer you then had to get out each time. There was no light over the Jacuzzi so reading in the tub was impossible. Very inconvenient on both accounts. Also note the Jacuzzi tub and jets were set away from the TV so you could not watch a show and take a soak. The plumbing fixtures would not allow you to sit comfortably facing the TV and should you try, 2 jets would shoot water straight to your face. Trust me, it was a surprise for me to get squirted. The AC for the room seemed cool but sounded louder and louder and was apparently not part of the upgrades. The bathroom fan screeched when it was on so we never used it. A fridge was nice to have but the cabinet around that area looked like it was rotting away and quite nasty being all broken apart on the bottom. Friendly folks working there and the 9 hole, par 3 golf grounds looked really nice. Our red rock view was unseen from our patio and could only be viewed if you actually walked onto the golf course. One other let down was the patio. The patio had not been cleaned and had junk left from last patrons on the seats and table. The screen on the sliding door to the patio was torn and falling off the track. Would not recommend this hotel at this price. Maybe a oversight on missed garbage. Definitely NOT worth $230 a night by any standards. The location was close to uptown Sedona only by car was is plus.

My Mom and I stayed here on Mother's Day night, May 11th, 2008 after placing a booking through Priceline the night before. We received a fair rate of $100 for the one night. I did read other reviews here and kept an eye out for issues but went in with an open mind. We found the newly renovated rooms to be quite comfy and clean. We asked for a view room w/ 2 beds and had a great view of the Sedona red rocks and the golf course/gazebo and the most beautiful roses. In fact, there were roses all over the resort property and someone must have agreen thumb as they were gorgeous. The grounds could use a little more TLC but we did see personnel doing maintenance while we were there but they in now way interfered with our stay. The exterior of the resort is dated but the renovated interiors of the rooms more than made up for it. The concierge was extremely helpful -- and funny and the front desk clerk was more than willing to accommodate our special rooming requests without the typical --"'oh, you booked this on Priceline so I can't accommodate your requests." The pool area was clean and uncrowded, the restaurant seemed roomy though we did not eat there. I would recommend this property to a friend and would certainly stay there again.

The Poco Diablo is a very nice place to stay in Sedona and affordable. The grounds are well kept and clean. Most of the rooms offer great views of a red rock formation located behind the hotel. The rooms are large and have all the ammenities you needs for your stay. The decor is modern and not over done with the "Southwest theme." We ate at the TCarls Resturant located in the Radisson on our last night. The food was good and not overpriced. Overall service was good, we would definetly consider staying there again.

The grounds at the hotel were very pretty and well maintained. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The workout room was nice as well. We did not eat at the restaurant, but it was pricey. ($12 for a burger). On the negative side, our screen door was off its track. There was a nail (very sharp screw) sticking out of the sliding glass door of the patio. Also, I think the sleep number beds are uncomfortable. I can't understand why they are popular.

I would stay here again.
