Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had. The owner is nuts, screaming and insulting when I asked for a refund due to the room being filthy! I bought a package, and thought I was committed to it, so we tried to stay even though the room nearly made us sick! After our train ride, we decided that we couldn't stay even on top of the filthy comforters, so we asked for a refund for the room (after paying $688.90 for 4 people!). The owner said that if I could find fault with the room, he would "find fault" with me. He screamed and pointed, but when I said I was calling the police, he quickly gave me $79 back for the room, and told us to get out. We used the train tickets and the dinners from our package (excellent!), but forfeited the breakfasts in order to get out of the room. A car accident had put us a day behind, and Shannon at the Route 66 office told us that "with great difficulty" she was able to reschedule our train tickets, but there was a $50 cancellation fee. The Grand Canyon Railway told me that the tickets had only been changed, so they had not charged a fee. When I confronted Shannon, she said that she had charged the cancellation fee for the inn, as well as charging us for the night we were unable to stay, and that I had "misunderstood" that the fee was for the train. I have never had such a horrible experience, and strongly recommend that everyone stay away from this place. We stayed in Las Vegas the next night in a large, spotlessly clean room for much less than the cost of one night at Route 66 Inn. This place should be shut down!!!
