I returned here last week for the second straight year to play Golf with a large group of friends. On arrival even the drive into the grounds continues to take your breath away. You drive for about 10 minutes across the Montgomery course before making your way up to the stunning Hotel. The Hotel is set in spectacular grounds overlooking the course.
Reception, on arrival at 1100am we checked in, unfortunately are rooms were not ready but they stored our luggage and let us get to the golf club. The staff were professional, knowledgable and very helpful.
On to the golf club, we availed of the changing facilities to get ready, the gents changing rooms are a refurbished farm building, but still has 5 star class throughout.
We rented buggies for the week at a charge of 35euros per day with the only downside being that the gps didn't work.
We played the O'Meara course twice and the Montgomery course once. As usual I enjoyed the O'Meara course, it was in good condition, received a lot of rain but held up nicely. The greens rolled true and where running at good speed, a spectacular course, with its only amen corner, 14,15 and 16, you will not be disappointed.
With regards to the Montgomery course, It has drastically went down hill, the greens where SHOCKING, slow, spiked and still covered in sand, poor for this time of year. The rough has been cut back to increase speed of play but it just ruined the course as you could hit it everywhere and still score. I don't rate it as a championship course any longer and would choose to never play it again.
The Spa - we used the spa one morning, it has a large pool, good changing facilities, spa pool, steam room and sauna. The Steam room needs work as the door sticks and its STINKS, I was very disappointed but the Spa and the sauna certainly made up for it.
Food - we had breakfast both mornings in the Linnen restaurant, the food was gorgeous, a large warm selection plus a great cold selection. Well worth a trip.
We also had dinner in the golf club, I had the O'Meara chicken burger which was lovely, the menu was perfectly suited to the course.
The staff - I can't fault the staff in the slightest, they all acted in a professional manner, very helpful and would go the extra mile when required.
In the golf club a pint of Guinness was 4.70 euro, pint of Bulmers 5 euro and lager beer was 5 - 5.50 euro.
I will come back here, but if given the choice I will only play the O'Meara course. Also the practice facilities are second to none.
the 2nd floor is the same level as the spa.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to review our hotel on Tripadvisor.
I am delighted to see that you had such an enjoyable experience during your stay with us and I have passed your comments on to the team here in the hotel and club house.
Our steam room has a timed feed of eucalyptus oil so that there is always a refreshing and invigorating aroma in the room. We will check to ensure that this is working correctly.
We did carry out a significant amount of ground work on the Montgomery Course during the month of April so I am sorry that this took from your enjoyment of this course but I can assure you that we are already seeing the benefits of the work which was carried out and I am sure that you will have a much more enjoyable game on the Monty on your next visit to Carton if you do decide to play it. I have passed your feedback on this on to our Golf Team.
I do hope that we will have the opportunity of welcoming you back to Carton House in the future where you are sure of a warm welcome. If I can ever be of any assistance to you please feel free to contact me.
