My husband and child stayed here for 2 nights. We found everything to be lovely - the food in the restaurant is really amazing - I would say Michelin quality. We ate there both nights.
The hotel decor was fine and they are going through a refurb at the moment - the only slightly noticeable wear and tear was in the corridors to the hotel rooms. Our bedroom was lovely - very big, clean - nice view of the golf course and the bed was huge with clean bed linen. The bathroom was also big and spotless.
The main thing we noticed with the hotel was how friendly all the staff were - this makes such a change from nearly everywhere else we've stayed. From the receptionist to the waiting and bar staff and management - everyone would go out of their way to be friendly. It made us feel very relaxed for the duration of the stay.
The spa was great and we had the pool nearly to ourselves midweek - very warm water. We also availed of the massages which were very professional and relaxing. The spa staff were also very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was good - the only minor irk was that on several occasions some guests entered the restaurant and tried to sit at tables near the windows only to be told (nicely) to move by the staff as those tables were "for lunch". I think this is a bit of a false economy as it only embarrasses both the guests and the waiters and only saves the staff the short journey down steps to change the table afterwards.
The bar staff were equally as friendly and we had lunch in there twice - we found the food very nice though we did have the same issue as a previous poster with the dessert menu where we were told items were only available during lunch hours which was a bit annoying. Again the staff were very helpful and went out of their way to accomodate our child.
We were eager to avail of the parkland surrounding the hotel but were a bit disappointed that there was really only one safe route to take a buggy which was just the driveway up to the hotel through the golf course. Otherwise we were told we could go out onto the country road (which had normal traffic and no footpath) or walk around the golf course - which we reluctantly did without a path. The grounds are gorgeous but maybe if a footpath route could be put in beside the lakes it would afford a lovely walk without feeling like you're walking across a golf course (which of course you are).
We'll definitely be going back and I would recommend this hotel to anyone - especially the restaurant - I only wish it was nearer to us as we could eat there all the time.
