“Fabulous food - very friendly staff.”

Nuremore Hotel and Country Club

10 Apr 2008

My husband and child stayed here for 2 nights. We found everything to be lovely - the food in the restaurant is really amazing - I would say Michelin quality. We ate there both nights.

The hotel decor was fine and they are going through a refurb at the moment - the only slightly noticeable wear and tear was in the corridors to the hotel rooms. Our bedroom was lovely - very big, clean - nice view of the golf course and the bed was huge with clean bed linen. The bathroom was also big and spotless.

The main thing we noticed with the hotel was how friendly all the staff were - this makes such a change from nearly everywhere else we've stayed. From the receptionist to the waiting and bar staff and management - everyone would go out of their way to be friendly. It made us feel very relaxed for the duration of the stay.

The spa was great and we had the pool nearly to ourselves midweek - very warm water. We also availed of the massages which were very professional and relaxing. The spa staff were also very friendly and helpful.

The breakfast was good - the only minor irk was that on several occasions some guests entered the restaurant and tried to sit at tables near the windows only to be told (nicely) to move by the staff as those tables were "for lunch". I think this is a bit of a false economy as it only embarrasses both the guests and the waiters and only saves the staff the short journey down steps to change the table afterwards.

The bar staff were equally as friendly and we had lunch in there twice - we found the food very nice though we did have the same issue as a previous poster with the dessert menu where we were told items were only available during lunch hours which was a bit annoying. Again the staff were very helpful and went out of their way to accomodate our child.

We were eager to avail of the parkland surrounding the hotel but were a bit disappointed that there was really only one safe route to take a buggy which was just the driveway up to the hotel through the golf course. Otherwise we were told we could go out onto the country road (which had normal traffic and no footpath) or walk around the golf course - which we reluctantly did without a path. The grounds are gorgeous but maybe if a footpath route could be put in beside the lakes it would afford a lovely walk without feeling like you're walking across a golf course (which of course you are).

We'll definitely be going back and I would recommend this hotel to anyone - especially the restaurant - I only wish it was nearer to us as we could eat there all the time.

A group of 8 of us stayed here over the Easter bank holiday weekend for my fiancee's Dad's 60th birthday. Having heard reviews in the past of how dated the hotel is, I expected the hotel to be fine but nothing amazing. We were going for the company rather than the hotel itself. Although it is a little dated, the hotel is generally really nice; rooms and public seating areas very comfortable.

The service was outstanding. From the minute we arrived to departure, the attention to detail and politeness and professionalism of the staff were remarkable. They made every effort to make sure our needs were catered for.

The restaurant was very well run (with the exception of the questionable music piping through, which we had asked to be turned down or off on a few occasions) and the food we had in the evening of a very high standard. The breakfast was not quite as good the next morning, and as a result, somewhat disappointing.

However, I would not have a problem recommeding this hotel to someone I know. Having said that, I would more than likely recommend it to the older generations; it is not contemporary in look or feel.

“Could do with an overhaul, great food”

Nuremore Hotel and Country Club

Okay, the restuarant as this hotel is wonderful, totally out of this world, it is fine dining at it's best, the meals we had here were some
of the best ever. The staff in the restaurant are fantastic, very very
pleasent and know their jobs, they add to a wonderful dining experience and the dining room room is a lovely place to have dinner.

The hotel is set in some lovely grounds, a long drive leading up to it, the entrance is not that great, it's not very clear. On arrival the reception staff were lovely, our room was not ready but we were offerred complimentary drinks whilst we waited and we only had to wait
about ten minutes.

But the rooms, what a disappointment, they are tired old grubby and need a major overhaul, I can't actually believe that there are hotel rooms this old looking anymore. We took a family room, they layout is great, it has a little room at the entrance with a seperate door for your children to come in which is great if you want some privacy. But the room was horrible, dark with old bedspreads and it smelt musty and
damp, I was glad that I had a sleeping bag for my son to sleep in.

The main part of the room was the same, old decor(which I don't ,mind if it's clean),the carpets had stains all over them and the windows had mould growing up the side, it was horrid, layers of covers on the beds and I felt like they had been there for years. The bathroom was small but clean. But overall the room smelt damp.

The staff overall were exceptional, very friendly and happy to assist.
My only complaint is that during the day unless you eat in the fine dining restaurant you cannot get food for children in the bar, they only serve sandwiches and soup which is not acceptable when the hotel is in the middle of nowhere. This caused an incident for us when we tried to order chicken and potatoes for our son and were asked to leave the main area and eat in the tv room which was again old dark and dingy. I was furious that we had been treated this way and complained to the Manager, to be fair she dealt with it promptly and we did receive an apology some wine but it doesn't alter the fact that
you can't feed your child in the main area!!

Overall I would say the staff are fantastic, the food is delicious but
the hotel is old dirty and dated and needs a good lick of paint and some new furniture, I would eat here again but would stay in Cabra Castle which is about ten minutes drive away!

“11 out of 10”

Nuremore Hotel and Country Club

11 out of 10!! with every visit to the Nuremore Hotel we are even more impressed! we dont know how but the food really does get better and better. After disappointing weather for golf, we had a simply fantastic meal in the evening both in quality and presentation. A huge amount of thought and work must go on behind the scenes (would love to be a fly on the wall). Although the golf course was wet the expansive green were unbelievable good, wish we had same on our home course. New and old faces this time did their upmost to make our stay happy and enjoyable. The special offers are the very best of value - we are so very lucky!

I recently stayed in the Nuremore with my better half for 3 nights. Dinner was included in the package for 2 nights but we ate there on the 3rd too. The food was simply fabulous. The portion sizes were not huge but more than adequate when combined with a pre-starter and a pre-dessert. The food itself was fresh and used local ingredients and was brilliantly cooked. The presentation of the food was mouth-watering and the sauces were delicious - I particularly recommend the Barbary Duck with a cognac based sauce. The Vahlrona Chocolate Coulant is to die for with warm chocolate oozing onto the plate. The wine list is impressively extensive and tailored to suit most wallets. The waiting staff, maitre'd and sommelier were all helpful, friendly, efficient and professional. At eur52 for the set menu, the dinner is excellent value.

With regards to the hotel itself, the reception is very understated and the staff are efficient. The lift close to reception is a little slow and claustrophobic and the hotel layout is quite rambling and confusing. Our room (demi-suite) was adequate; the bed was huge, the provision of water and tea/coffee making materials was appreciated, the iron and ironing board in the cupboard was a nice thought and our robes and slippers were fluffy and comfortable. The paintwork does need a bit work as someone had painted over a previous leak stain with gloss paint on top of the original matt and the plumbing was quite noisy. Still, it is an old hotel so some eccentricities are to be expected. We used the pool on one occasion and it was lovely although I did find the cleaning of the changing room whilst I was there a little intrusive.

Overall, this hotel is well worth a visit for the food alone although I'm not sure the extra charge for a demi-suite is worthwhile (for 2 people). This was not my first visit and I hope to return for another visit soon.
