We stayed in May 2007 (2 adults and 3 year old child).
The hotel is modern and impressive - the public areas certainly have the "wow-factor" to impress you when you arrive. Scary life-size bronze statues abound in the public areas.
The bedrooms are all at the front of the hotel with a sea view - nobody has to look out over the constantly busy motorway which is literally right outside the back of the hotel. To arrive at and leave the hotel by vehicle you have to use the motorway, there is no other road to the hotel. It's fair to say that motorway noise is not a problem at the front of the hotel.
Our room was large and comfortable, with French doors and a big window so you could see the sea all the time. One drawback is that you can't lock the doors to the balcony from the inside, which is a bit of a worry when you have small children.
The food was excellent, particularly at breakfast ("Manchego cheese, Gromitt?") and you can eat outside if you wish. All the staff were pleasant and helpful throughout our stay.
The pool areas were pleasant and not crowded in May, we could get a sun lounger any time we wanted.
There is a very nice beach just a few feet in front of the hotel (the gate is in the fence behind the little hut by the pool for those of you having trouble finding it, and is operated by your room card-key). On the beach are several old rowing boats filled with sand where the locals congregate in the evenings and weekends to have barbecues - there's nothing to stop you buying some charcoal and having a go yourself if you wish. Also, the moorish castle next to the hotel is well worth a visit.
We didn't see any entertainment as it was on too late for our little boy, but the games room in the basement was the only disappointment of our stay - just a few items and most of them broken, eg pool table had no cues, dart board no darts, air hockey not working. This didn't matter to us, but I could imagine that teenagers would be quite disappointed.
The problem this hotel has - and this probably explains what I considered to be a very reasonable tarriff - is that it's a bit out on a limb at the end of the resort, and Fuengirola itself, it has to be said, makes Playa de las Americas in Tenerife look classy.
There are not many shops in the immediate area, but there is a small but tardis-like supermarket at the camping site on the other side of the motorway; to get to it, come out of the hotel reception, turn left, cross over the footbridge, pass the petrol station and the supermarket is the little white building in front of you - it's also a restaurant. The whole walk is about 400 yards and the shop has everything most people could need in a hotel room, ie 5 litres of water for a euro, and a surprisingly varied selection of beers, wines, spirts and soft drinks. And Pringles. And McVities digestives. What more would an Englishman in Spain want?
Overall I would recommend this hotel, particularly if you are lucky enough to be able to take the kind of holiday where you just laze around all day and rarely leave the hotel grounds. If you are dead set on going to Fuengirola come-what-may, then you would be hard pressed to find better value for money.
