Date of visit = 8th February 2012.
Having stayed at the Nerja Club Hotel some years ago, my partner and I decided to visit the hotel again as we had been told it had been refurbished, and checking on the internet it looked very nice. We booked in for just one night half board. (We were already staying in an apartment in Torremolinos, so we just wanted to check out the Nerja Club Hotel with a view to staying there for Christmas.) The reception staff were excellent and friendly, and booked us into room 206. On entering the room it was really nice.Very clean and modern with a lovely bathroom. The bed was comfortable and there was an up to date LCD TV with a good selection of favourite English TV channels. A very good refurbishment had been done, even the corridor leading to the room was bright and welcoming. The room had a nice outlook over the pool and terrace. All was well until we realised that we were directly above the fitness centre and every time the equipment was being used the sound came up through the floor, there was no noise problem once the fitness/spa closed in the evening but we would have liked a bit of a rest in the room, having travelled by bus since quite early from Torremolinos.
We went down and had lunch on a very nice covered terrace by the pool, near to the new raised Sun bathing area, checking out the well equipped spa/ fitness centre on the way, complete with indoor pool and jacuzzi. As evening approached it was time for our meal in the Nerja Club restaurant.
And this is when the Nerja Club Hotel stated to loose points..
On entering the restaurant we could see it had not changed at all, and still gave the impression of a works canteen complete with original florescent lights. The food had not improved either, it was the same poor quality as previous visits. It was just food. The stainless steel bowls for pudding looked more suitable as pet feeding bowls. But the first thing you see when you go to the hot food counter is a Box For Tips. We were approached by a very brisk unsmiling waiter and ordered drinks which we paid for at the small bar, noticing that as you pay you are presented by TIP BOX No 2. Having paid for the drinks, just in case you missed the first two TIP BOXES, there is a third TIP BOX at the door as you leave the restaurant.

Having left the restaurant we went into the lounge for a coffee. The waiter brought the coffees and the bill. I gave him a 20 Euro note, and waited for my change, and waited, and waited, but no change came. he eventually passed by to serve other guests and looked at the empty cups and my partner and I still sitting there. I stared at him and after about 20 minutes he brought my change.
We then moved to another more comfortable part of the lounge and ordered some drinks from the same waiter. I paid him and waited again for my change but this time he had conveniently forgotten all about it. After about 25 minutes I asked for my change. At first he did not remember and then had a remarkable memory recovery and brought me my change. It seems a case of if you get fed up waiting for your change and leave, or don,t ask for it they on to a nice little earner!!. We have decided not to return again to the NERJA CLUB HOTEL.
