We booked our holiday through First Choice (late deal) allocation on arrival Half Board and were sent to the Nerja Club, Nerja. The hotel is about 40 minutes away from Malaga in the opposite direction from the main resorts of Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola etc. Nerja itself is on the coast with a nice cosmipolitan town and has some fantastic beaches and the Balcon de Europe (nice area overlooking the coast). The Nerja Club Hotel is situated at the top of the town and a walk into town involves some hill walking so a car would be a bonus. The Hotel is very clean and the food is very good for a 3* hotel with lots of choice and all freshly cooked. The rooms are fairly basic and the only down side for us was that the beds are quite hard and the pillows were too hard and high for us to sleep on, the shower is an old type that you hang on the wall (but it worked really well) there is a small tv with quite a few english channels and a small balcony. There is entertainment every night and from what we saw it was ok. We only stayed here for 2 nights because we went to stay in a friends appartmend in Calahonda (near Marbella) and closer to the main resorts. To round things off the Nerja Club Hotel is clean and well presented, the food is good but take a pillow with you, we enjoyed the 2 nights we were there and didn`t move because of the hotel but because we wanted to be further south where friends of ours live.

There is no doubt that you can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time!! Was my feeling after reading the wide variety of reviews on this hotel before I made my booking. After only a couple of days there I was pleased that I had ignored the negative reviews.
I can only envy and wonder at what magnificent surroundings and sumptuous 3* Hotel food critics of the Nerja Club must have experienced in other 3*hotels. As for me, after 30 years of extensive foreign travel the Nerja Club Food rates very highly indeed - I have stayed in hotels with higher star ratings with significantly inferior food quality. Breakfast offered a sufficient variety of choices, hot and cold, which more that equalled anything I have experienced in any UK/Irish, let alone foreign 3/4 star hotels. At dinner there was a pleasing and varied choice in starters, salad and main course; which in the 2 weeks I stayed was not replicated(sadly, as I really wanted to have the delicious Canelloni,Spag Bol, and Weiner Schnitzel etc again!) My only minor criticism was the limited choice of desert, but as there was always delicious fresh fruit and 3 flavours of ice cream it's hard to really complain!
Our room situation was ideal as my elderly mother has mobility difficulties and despite the various warnings of several steps in the hotel, she only had to negotiate 4 to get from our room to the pool area, other wise it was the lift to the dinning room. Again a minor criticism was the lack of soundproofing in the rooms, which may annoy a light sleeper. The hotel was clean, the staff friendly and helpful any request was dealt with pleasantly and efficiently, and while the decor may be rather outdated it was well looked after.
The Happy Hour and the nightly entertainment were much appreciated and very enjoyable as well as typically professional Costa entertainment. It also finished at a reasonably early hour of 11.30.While perhaps not appealing to those very much under 40, it was grand for those of us of a little more senior years and ideal for those even older who were mostly confined to the hotel.
While the hotel is some way out of the centre, which in some ways makes its position more attractive, it is still possible to walk into town - 15 mins or so at a good pace. A taxi back after sight seeing weariness sets in costs 6 Euro - there is a straight road back but has a slight incline.
I found the hotel perfect for mine and my mother's needs. There was even a sun lounge which was extremely useful during the couple of unusually inclement days we experienced, even the TV in the room kept us up to date with UK progs.
Surely it must be proof of the hotel's charm that I met there numerous repeat clients???? Some of whom returned 3x a year and had done so for the last 5/6 years! Saying that I too am considering a return visit! This after 30 years of travel will be a first to go back to the same resort let alone the same hotel.

we were so excited about going to the costa del sol, and when we arrived the hotel looked ok.

when we got inside we were met by unhelpful and unfriendly staff who didn't even show us to our room, which was to our dissapointment was down 3 flights of stairs and we had to carry our cases down all three flights. we also discovered that our rooms were under the swiming pool and dance stage.

the rooms were horrible and not well cleaned, the bathrooms were even worse, there was no window and lots of mold on the walls and ceilings. everything was dirty, and there was a large crack in the bath.

the bedding which we had had rips and tares and the beds were hard which made for an uncomfortable night.

the evening meal could only be eated from 7.30pm which didn't suit us. at first we didn't mind having a buffet dinner, but there was not much choice in food and the quality was very very poor.
Unless you liked piella you were stuck for much to eat.

The hotel was quite away from the beach. there was a steap hill to walk down the locals call it cardiak hill.

i would not recomend this hotel to my worst enemy.

We were a little worried with some of the reviews. But it was great a very clean attractive hotel ,polite friendly and helpful staff and very good food .Our room was just what we had asked for high with sea view ,a large bright room and full bathroom .If you do have walking difficulties you will need to hire a car , but we like to walk so for us just great .In all a very good holiday and we will go again , for us this is a very rare occurrence Mr & Mrs C Jackman

“Nice hotel - Good location”

Nerja Club

14 Jun 2008

My partner and I spent 4 nights at this hotel in March. My dad had stayed there the year before and was quite impressed. We requested a room over the pool but when we arrived had been allocated a room on the side of the hotel, it was very nice and the balcony was nice and big but I was disappointed when it became apparent that despite being told on arrival that the rooms around the pool were booked up, this did not appear to be the case (we could see when sitting by the pool that many of the rooms were unoccupied). We were not very impressed by the food at all and despite paying for half-board ate out on one occasion, we found the choice very poor. The hotel has a very nice lounge area and was generally very clean. The only thing I would say is that the evening entertainment is ridiculously loud and goes on very late (and I'm only 30!). My dad has recently stayed there again and said the same thing. We found car parking good and always got a space outside the hotel. There is also a very good supermarket across the road. We would probably stay there again as we found the location excellent, being just a short walk into Nerja (be prepared for an uphill walk on the way back although it's not steep), I think next time we would stay on a bed&breakfast basis though.
