The hotel was indeed fantastic. We (myself, husband, mother in law of 75, son 14 and daughter 6) stayed here in July and went primarily for a quiet and relaxing holiday. This hotel is ideally suited for just that.
The food was fantastic, the Italian restaurant had a slightly better breakfast in my view than the main restaurant. The Spanish restaurant had fabulous lunches, making it unnecessary to trek up to the main restaurant from the pool. The kids loved the snackbar and had lunch there most days.
The gardens were immaculate, as were the pools themselves. We did find that there were alot of cigarette butts thrown on the floor by the lower pol, which was sometimes left for days. There was a problem with the umbrellas and sun beds at the lower pool. It got so bad that I saw people lugging them into their rooms of an evening! No kidding, it happened. Also it seemed the norm to "bags" a bed or two, swan off to the town for the day and then return in the late afternoon. Most annoying and I wish the attendents did something about this. If going with a larger group in the high season, get up early if want to be sure of sun loungers with umbrellas.
The rooms were fabulous, just be carefull in the disabled rooms as the shower curtains on our visit were too short, flooding the bathroom which made the marble floor extremely slippery. The other rooms didn't have this problem as they had a bath with shower curtain hanging in it.
Get a second key for the room, you can get this for a deposit from the reception. It is especially handy if sharing the room with your teen (as we were) it gives them some freedom.
Taxis can be haggled with, the rate seemed to change on a regular basis and most would take more than 4 if there were children in the party.
We went on the Teide tour. It was interesting but I would advise hiring a car and going yourself as it will work out alot cheaper and to be honest with you, there is only so much pummice stone I can take photo's of and a tour bus stops every 10 minutes or so, making the trip last ALL day! We also went on the catamaran to see the Whales and Dolphins, this was lovely but you will need to take sea sickness pills if it is at all choppy and your stomaches are easily unsettled.
All in all, I can thoroughly recommend this hotel for a relaxing holiday. Younger teens might get a bit bored, my daughter loved the animation and kiddy disco in the evening. The animation team were amazing and deserved a raise!
