Bahia Principe Costa Adeje

Having been to Tenerife hundreds of times staying mainly in Adeje around the Del Duque area we thought we would have a change and go all inclusive. Given that there are very few decent all inclusives i,e above 4 star in Tenerife we felt that the Bahia Principe would be a welcome change. Having read all the reviews before booking we would say that in the main they were pretty spot on although I wouldn't necessarily return to this particular hotel. There are better although mainly half board in better locations.

Overall, if you are looking for an above average hotel, good food and are happy to stay at the hotel and not be put off by being unable to go anywhere else in the day or night in close proximity then this hotel is a good choice. Firstly the negatives:

Rude, unhelpful reception staff. I was spoken to like a 5 year old on arrival.

No beach to talk of. It does feel a bit like Butlins in the sun with a daily jingle being belted out each morning at 10.30 with the days events

Playa Pariaso is very quiet and the hotel itself is isolated. You really need a car to see any civiisation. All the main resorts are only approx 10 minutes away by car.

Rooms a bit dated but clean You have to join the dawn chorus for any chance of a decent sunbed particularly at the weekends Very hilly but I suppose good exercise Tiles around the pool lethal when wet
Cheap wine No spirits at the main pool bar (not that we minded with a 2 year old)

Now for the good points:
Very attractive hotel and much livier than the Tenerife option
Very children orientated
The waiters/cleaners/bar staff very friendly. Pitty they are let down by the managment team who never once said good morning.
Good choice of food. A la carte, and in particular the seafood excellent. The main El Mirador restaurant let this whole hotel down. Very poorly managed and caotic particularly at breakfast.

If I was thinking of booking this hotel I would say that if you don't have children then the Tenerife is better but if you do, the Adeje would be my choice. However if you are looking for somewhere to stroll in the evening, a nice beach and a few shops then this is not the right choice. There are plenty of better hotels in better locations but you may need to be prepared to pay more.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for a week at the end of June 2008.

We arrived at 2am, checked in, given rooms keys and told how to find the room. Our luggage would be taken to the room by a porter.
The room was quite a distance from the reception so initially I was glad not to be struggling with the cases. We were in room 5216, facing the beach, not the pool. After waiting for around 30 mins for the bags, I got annoyed, went back up to reception to see what the crack was, the bags were on there way. The bags finally turned up at 3am, I was not impressed.
It would also have been nice to be told we could have got some food from the 24hour snack bar and that the mini bar was free or even existed, but due to the time of arrival, really we just wanted the cases and to get to bed.
Overall the room was nice, it was cleaned everyday to an excellent standard, mini bar was filled everyday, towels changed daily. The shower is really powerful and always has hot water.

Next day we went to the welcome meeting (we booked with first choice), we shouldn’t have bothered. Nothing was explained to us about the hotel really, didn’t say anything about the restaurants, the first choice rep was basically trying to sell excursions.
We asked about food, pools etc at reception and all was explained there. We also sorted out the safe box and pool towels at the reception.

The food I thought was excellent, plenty of choice and the food is always fresh. I recommend that you got to the Italian restaurant for your breakfasts, the main restaurant always gets really busy and you have to queue for some things which is abit annoying. The Italian restaurant has all the choice of the main restaurant but is always a lot quieter.
The Spanish restaurant is where lunch is served. Again there is loads and loads of choice, fresh meats cooked in front of you, fresh breads and salads, pasta etc. Wonderful stuff.
The dinner buffet is in the main restaurant. It can get quite busy at peak time and there was always a queue for ice cream. There is a crazy amount of choice here, everything, anything is available all really nice too. Sirloin steaks cooked fresh, pork, lamb, chicken, ribs, turkey, beef the choice is endless.
We stayed for a week and were allowed to visit 3 themed restaurants at night (I assume if you are there for longer you can visit more), the choice is Asian, Fish, Mexican, Spanish or Italian. We decided to go for Mexican, Spanish and Italian. At the Mexican I went for the Northern Grill which is basically a mixed grill on a sizzling plate – very nice. Before you main meal, starter time. Buffet style, beef and chicken fajitas, chicken legs, tortilla chips, chilli and more.
The Spanish restaurant I have a steak with pepper source. This was very nice, although there wasn’t too much here that interested me for starter, parma ham was nice.
The Italian was probably the best of the 3 restaurants we visited. Like in the other restaurants you order your main meal and then are let loose on a starter buffet. Garlic bread, meats, pizzas, freshly cooked pasta – you could easily over eat on the starters and end up not eating your main. For main I had pork. This was a thin pork steak rolled up with ham inside it served with potatoes and veg (my description is a bit pathetic but it was really nice).

The pools, now from I could see there 2 main pools at the Tenerife hotel and 2 main pools at the Costa Adeje hotel. The pool we liked most was the pool that overlooked the sea in the Costa Adeje hotel. If you get sun beds overlooking the sea then keep your eyes pealed for dolphins in the sea. We saw some nearly everyday. There are two bars at the Costa Adeje pools, one of which is a snack bar where you can serve your self and the other one is serviced by a barman.
I wasn’t too impressed with the beach. Its part sand and part rock. When coming out of the sea the waves pushed me over onto the rocks and I cut my knee so be careful, the rocks are slippery.

There are 2 lobby bars, one in each hotel, and a sports bar (were you have to pay for drinks). The two lobby bars have live music each night which is nice, usually a singer and someone who can sing (all covers). The bars itself was large, although, vastly understaffed and would always serve Spanish people before anyone else, regardless of any queues. Also, this I found most strange, they only serve you half pints – whats that about?
I was a little disappointed with the cocktails menu, there were only about 6 different things you could have. At each side of the lobby bar were drinks tables were you could find spirits, jugs of soft drinks, bottles of wine (everything except beers and cocktails), you can help your selves to these. On the last night of out holiday, a beer tap on the bar was moved so that you could serve your self beer.
There is also a table towards the back of the lobby bar where you can make teas and coffee. This is pretty much the same set up in both lobby bars.
The sports bar was a joke, the TVs were the smallest things iv ever seen. Putting a 19inch portable in a corner of the room and putting the football on does not entitle you to be called a sports bar. Plus, for this privilege you are expected to pay for drinks. This is easy to avoid, just go to the lobby bar to get drinks then take them back to the sports bar.

Beware, there is a bit of a fly problem but nothing that some stinky fly spray wont sort out.

Overall I really enjoyed my stay at the Costa Adeje and wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Although, as I mentioned above, there were a couple of annoying points.

“Nice hotel, spotless and nice facilties”

Big family holiday, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandparents, etc.

My little clan: me, mrs, 3 kids (1-11).

Although booked room for 4 + baby, it clearly wasn't ideal for us and was short on space as needed 2 foldout beds and a cot. The hotel reception staff didn't care about this or seemingly want to resolve it - as they said that's how it was booked. Maybe, but had we been advised it would have meant zero floor soace we may have thought again. It is clear they could have found a larger room if they had the will as it was out of season.

However, the rooms where nice. Big complex. Activities if you want, buy fairly low key.

Plenty of food on offer, should be able tom find stuff to keep you fed even if fussy. They allow you to book a number of nights in their themed restaurants - book in advance.

Plus you can access stuff at the sister hotel up the hill.

Free bus to resorts needs to be booked, but you can jump a taxi - if a few of you this is OK. Can also get a 7 seater one to split the cost further on teh way back from town.

TV rubbish for english speaking channels.

Was exceptionally clean and well staffed.

Wouldn't go in peak season, expect a wholly different experience if full to the rafters.

Just returned from a relaxing enjoyable 2 week holiday at the Bahia Principe, this is an excellent hotel buffet restaurant is super, mexican a must, italian was also good, they will cook you any of the pasta to order, and it was really good. Pizzas were great too. Spanish which you would expect to be as good as the others failed to impress any of our party of nine. 2 of us has the peppers stuffed with cod, this was served pureed resembling baby food. Not nice, only main course that got good reviews was the entrecote. Never managed to get to the asian or the fish restaurants.

The little beach behind the hotel is lovely, a bit rocky leading into the sea but a beautiful spot, nothing much in Playa Paraiso if you managed the steps the other side of the beach, give that a miss. Very tacky in comparison to the hotel standard.

The only negative comment I could make is the wine is terrible, had to stick with the sparkling white when you could get it, this was emptied as quick as the bar man opened the bottles for self service.

Just returned from Bahia Principe after two weeks with our family (two boys 3 years and 9 months). Overall had a good time - but that was the company and not the hotel.

Pros: The bedrooms were really clean and the majority of staff were really friendly ( that doesnt include the breakfast staff at the italian who went out of their way to being unfriendly and had seriously bad attitudes). Food was generally of a high standard although the a la carte restaurants were the same food as the buffet but just served to your table. PLenty of food available during the day. Had private transfers both way for free with cosmos so that was a bonus! Lots of different nationalities.

Cons: Not recommended if you have a buggy as we found it quite hard, the choice was either four flights of stairs or three or four lifts (all far away from each other) to get to the restaurant and the main square. The pool was cleaned once whilst we were there and was fairly dirty under foot. This also meant that there were a lot of sick children (and adults) with ear infections - all probably from the pool.
Not a good place if you dont like children as there were a lot (who clearly should have been in school!). Also quite far away from anywhere really!
Not a good place if you want a quiet holiday as the music by the pool was SO LOUD - you didnt have any choice but listen!
No kettle in room
Very bad coffee - from a vending machine during the day!!
Wine was disgusting both red and white and both were clearly watered down
Not a full bar - ie couldnt get cocktails made for you unless it was made from whisky, vodka, gin or rum. Cocktails they did make didnt contain hardly any alcohol.
Evening entertainment was....well for those who watch peter kay, the phoenix night revisited!!! it was awful!

Despite this we had a good time - you get what you pay for really! But wouldn't go back, but not upset that we went there!
