“Great if you are on a budget/have family”

Aparthotel Riu Adeje

Just got back from a 2 weeks stay at the Aparthotel Riu Adeje. I stayed there with my wife and 7 year old daughter. I really think it depends upon the style of hotel you are used to and what your budget is. If you are looking for 4 star luxury/money no object and have no kids I would probably say you may be disappointed with this hotel and you may wish to consider somewhere more upmarket ( Costa Adeje Gran Hotel or any of the del Duque Hotels ) I would say it is probably 3 stars plus. However, it offers great value for money, is in a good location - 5 mins walk from the seafront/beach at Fanabe, it is fantastic for kids - always something happening every day plus a kids disco at night for under 10s ( 7-30pm for 30 mins so not too late !) There is also table tennis, pool, air hockey for the older kids. The rooms are clean and the towels are changed every day.The room we were in contained a kitchen/diner with seating area in front of the TV, separate bedroom, nice bathroom/shower,double balcony with view above kids paddling pool. There is a microwave/hob/fridge, kettle, toaster, glasses, cups/plates, cutlery etc and there are a couple of good supermarkets nearby where you can stock up on food and drinks etc so self-catering could be an option for you. There are also plenty of restaurants around offering varied menus.First class maid service. Clean pool towels every day. There is the main pool with a shallow end for juniors plus a separate kiddies paddling pool which is only inches deep so very safe.We only stayed Bed & Breakfast so cannot comment on lunch/dinner but there was always plenty on offer ranging from the usual bacon/eggs etc to healthier options such as cold meats/fruit etc.All the staff are very helpful and speak English.
The beds are not great - ( probably one step up from camp beds ! ) and a double is two singles pushed together plus some parts of the hotel probably need a little re-furbishment but apart from these little nit-picks I would say that for people with families - say kids up to 14 years this hotel offers great value for money.Although it didn't bother us I would also mention that there were times when there was quite a noticeable German clientele and the evening entertainment is geared towards them - ( I think most Brits would think it was pretty naff - but we all have different tastes ! )
I hope this helps you to decide but please feel free to e.mail me if you have any queries

Stayed at this hotel 08 Feb for 1 week during kids half-term, returning 2 years after previous trip. Delighted to say that the quality of accommodation, service and food has not changed and we thoroughly enjoyed an unexpected winter break.

The bungalow was again spacious, clean and well maintained.

Our only criticism would be that the pools were very cold at this time of the year but this is to be expected.

Family holiday - travelled on 8th Feb 2008
Booked through Thomas Cook
Ages - 37,35,14

We have just returned from a somewhat short stay at the Riu Adeje. I can safely say this is the worst holiday experience i've ever had.
This is never a four star rated accommodation, and it was advertised as being in Playa De Las Americas in the brochure, when actually it is at the outer-end of Costa Adeje.
The star rating and the location were the main reasons for booking this accommodation.

On arrival we were given a room on the 3rd floor, which was very basic and in need of repair. This is a theme which seems to run through the majority of this complex.
Problems with the room:-
1. Broken outside door frame, which severely leaked water into the room when it rained.
2. No sockets in the bedroom, and the reception didn't have any extension leads to be able to run a lead from the kitchenette area.
3. Bathroom door handle came off in my hand.
4. No dressing table... you may think this is petty, but my wife and daughter both have long hair, and need to get ready and made-up without struggling.
5. Electric hob rings didn't get hot, just warm; the coffee maker didn't get hot either. So making a drink in the morning was an ordeal.
6. The fridge door didn't close properly.
7. Paintwork outside the room and on the balcony was tatty.

We stayed one night in this room. In the morning we asked to be moved to accommodation that deserved the 4* rating. We were upgraded free to a 'bungalow'. This had its own problems, but was better than the original room.
On arriving in the room I noticed the following problems:-
1. The bedroom window catch was broken, so the window wouldn't lock.
2. A light-fitting in the bedroom was hanging off the wall.
3. A socket next to the much needed dressing table didn't work.
4. The bungalow was tucked around the back off all the other bungalows in what seems to be a forgotten area. This is reflected in the state of the stairs up to the bungalow and the small paved area outside the patio doors, which had a dirty great block-wall running along side it... a great view !!!

The majority of the complex was run down and in need of refurbishment. The only areas that seem to be in good condition were the reception and pool areas

The holiday rep was very helpful, as were some of the reception staff in trying to deal with our complaints. This however cannot be said about the complex manager, who I must say is one of the most obnoxious individuals i've ever had to deal with. She was sarcastic and had complete disregard for customer care. The argument I had with her in the reception area sealed our fate at this accommodation, and we promptly flew home early on the Sunday, cutting our weeks' holiday short by 5 days.

In my opinion, 4* accommodation should give you everything you need, and you shouldn't be left wanting for the most basic of expectations.
I had read many of the reviews on this accommodation, and must come to the conclusion that Brits are too easily pleased when on holiday, and readily accept standards that they wouldn't even entertain at home in the UK.

“Loved the Riu”

Aparthotel Riu Adeje

We have just returned from a 2 week stay in Riu Adeje, Aparthotel and we could not have had better service. We had a 1 bedroomed apartment, which we did not expect, since we booked standard rooms. Daily cleaning service & fresh towels were provided , bed linen changed twice weekly . The staff were helpful, friendly & efficient. Huge selection of food to suit all tastes. We have been to Tenerife many times but this was our first visit to a Riu Hotel & it is definitely one to be repeated.

“good hotel”

My fiance and I stayed at the Rui Adeje for a week with Thomas Cook self catering. We were pleased with our apartment as was quite big for two people and it was all clean, the maid would come in every day although if you was busy she would come back later. The kitchen had a microwave, cooker, kettle, fridge and toaster. The bathroom had a bath and shower with hot water, and a hairdryer. We also had a table and chairs, a sofa, a nice big balcony and a safe in our room which cost about 12 euros. The pool was great it was really big and clean, we didnt have a problem getting a sunbed and there was a bar next to the pool open lunchtimes.

We had a Thomas Cook rep at the hotel which was helpful as you could see her if you had any problems although we didnt. We also booked our days out to Loro Parque and Aqualand with her and she told us where and when to catch the free buses. Loro parque was really good especially the whale and dolphin shows but if you would rather see them out in the wild you can get catamaran trips which guarantee you see dolphins or whales we went on the VIP one and saw both.

All the staff are friendly and always say Hola and they were helpful the tv wouldnt go on when we first got there but we told reception and they sent someone to fix it straight away. We only had sky news but was out most of the time anyway.

Other people have complained about walking up the hill to get to the hotel, we didnt find this a problem but elderly people might. Its about a ten minuite walk to the nearest beach, fanabe beach. There are lots of restaurants and bars to choose from all along the beach and there are shops and supermarkets everywhere there is one just across the road fom our hotel.

On our last day we had to leave our room at 12 but they put our suitcases in a locked room so we didnt have to drag them around with us. Overall we had a really good holiday and we are planning on going back and staying in the same place.
