Just returned from short break at RIU PALACE - usual warm welcome and good standard of facilities. Room was a slight disappointment - hotel is horsehoe shaped - rooms on one wing therefore have limited/no sea view -overlook dusty service road. Avoid rooms in the range of 50 and up - view gets worse as numbers go up.
Also slightly surprised by the clientele - two defining charcaterisitics - elderly and German. We are no spring chickens (both in our 50s) but we were definitely well down the age scale. Also the vast majortiy of guests were German - not a problem in itself - although the fact that more than half the TV channesl were German language with only 2 English language news stations should have been a clue.
Quality of food not as good as other RIUs we have stayed at but not bad - part of the problem seemed to be the layout as there wasn't a natural flow - led to a lot of congestion at certian places.
All in all though an enjoyable break.

We stayed in the Riu Palace for one week on a half board basis.
We were given a very spacious room with a sea view and was excellently maintained every day, added with a few personal touches. The food in the restaurant was very good catering for every taste. The also have a speciality restaurant of which you can dine in at no extra charge and the food was superb. The hotel is in an excellent location with shops, other restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. From the moment we arrived every member of staff were very helpful and extremely
courteous. They helped make our week with them a very enjoyable one and would go back there again

Stayed at Riu Palace for New Year. This was our fifth stay at the hotel and the standard was as good as every. Staff as as always were very attentive and couldnt do enough for you. Hotel very clean and welcoming. Food very good and varied choice.
New Year celebrations were excellent.
Lovely promendade at front of hotel with lovely stylish bars to stop and have a drink.
Met two friends Steve and Linda who hired a motorbike and went up into the mountains which they recommended highly as a day out and a way to see the island.
Overall an excellent holiday.

stayed for just 1 night on 24th december before we moved to our apartment in las americas.
Hotel beautiful inside and out, room was spacious and very clean and well presented. Had ground floor room with terrace. no complaints with room standard.
Where half board, never made breakfast. Evening meal was buffet style which was average at best, however they offered us an a la carte meal on top of the buffet (not sure if this is offered every night or x amount per stay) but my partner chose beef fillet which was cooked to perfection we couldnt complain.
Location was great, nice if you like walking and having a look about.
To be fair we paid £17 for 1 night half board (an error on thomsons web page should have been about £230 for 1 night!!) so i cant complain at all - if i'd paid £230 for the night i wouldnt have been happy about the buffet style food quality.
if you can get a good deal i'd defo recommend this hotel

“Good standard 4 star”

We stayed here for 6 nights and was allocated a room on the 4th floor with a sea view. The room was fine except for the terrible bed, it was the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in and that includes camping! We had the sun on our balcony in the afternoon, which was nice as we could sit out and watch the sunset, usually around 6pm at this time of year.I must mention the chamber maid as she was excellent. Everywhere was spotless and little touches like the towel sculptures in the bathroom, were really nice.
I cannot fault the food at all, we found it was good quality and a nice variety, although if you were staying longer than a week I can imagine that it gets a bit repetitive. We took the option to eat at the pool bar one evening, which was Spanish themed, set menu and waiter service. It was excellent and made a nice alternative to the queues at the buffet. It was also very quiet as not many people seem to take up the option( more fool them)For breakfast you can sit outside on the terrace but be warned you have to get in first thing as the people who sit out there do not move for a least two hours!
The same can be said for the sunbeds, as the previous reviewer pointed out, you need to get up early to get a bed. It's a shame that the hotel who has a policy of no reserving sunbeds with towels, doesn't have the strength of it's convictions to enforce it. The same towels are left on beds all day with no one on them, annoying.
There is entertainment every evening, which is the usual Euro stuff, not our thing so we gave it a miss. Instead we headed out along the resort where there are some nice quiet little bars to have a drink. As you get closer to Las Americas the busier and louder it gets. This is where you need to be ,if you want full on night life, not for us.
Overall this is a nice 4 * hotel, good seafront location, nice landscaped gardens, good food and nice staff.
