“Excellent place to stay”

Dream Hotel Gran Tacande

12 Mar 2008

We stayed at the Gran Tacande between 4th and 11th march 2008. Our whole stay was better than expected with 'no fault found'. Our room was large, clean, bright and the view from our 4th floor balcony was excellent. There was even a fresh red rose in the bathroom.
A small point was the lack of free tea/coffee making facilities in the room. But having read about this in other reviews, we took our own so that we could have an early morning coffee in bed.

The restaurants in the hotel are all excellent with food and service to match the 5 star standard ( and prices). For the first time in many years I enjoyed an evening buffet meal in the Zurron where all the food was freshly cooked instead of the usual warmed over sludge that is typical of such reatuarants. The Breakfast buffet is superb and can keep you going all day.

The hotel grounds are well kept and furniture such as the sun beds are well maintained with none of the piles of broken furniture you find elsewhere.

There is some building work going on in a new construction to the side of the main hotel building which could be disturbing to guests that have a room on that side. The hotel staff do try to re-locate guests who do not like the rooms they get. One couple we met who complained where given a choice of 3 rooms to move to.

There is a shortage of local restaurants out side of the hotels in the Costa Adje. We like to sample a different restaurant every evening which was a problem as apart from the 2 restaurants in the Hotel there was only 3 other restaurants in the area. All these are good especially the ‘La Torre del Mirandor’ which is perched on a cliff with superb views over the bay towards ‘Las Americas’. A meal for two with a good bottle of wine in any of the restaurants in the local will cost between €60 - €100. If you want a cheaper evening out, take a 10 minute stroll along the beach towards Puerto Colon where you will find many places to choose from at lower prices but without the quality of the Adeje restaurants.

The Hotel ( and the local ) is a good place to stay for a break of about a week. It is not a place for Teenagers or couples wanting a wild night out – the whole place is asleep by 23:00!

“Great for a short break!”

Dream Hotel Gran Tacande

4 Mar 2008

We stayed at the Dream for 5 nights. 22 - 27 Feb 2008. We asked for a non smoking sea view but got non smoking no view!- just above the Spa.
Quite noisy at times.

We booked a bed and breakfast stay which was more than addequate - breakfasts can keep you going all day - champagne and caviar!!! plus anything else you can think of!!

Lovely hotel,clean, freindly staff.

Rooms clean, fantastic bathrooms with jet showers. 7 choices of pillows!

The only drawback was the freezing cold swimming pools and the use of the Spa and Gym.

The gym you had to pay to use and it was full of outdated machines 1/2 of which did not work and there was no a/c!!

Would we return? yes!!

This hotel is almost there but not quite. It exceeded our expectations in some ways yet fell short in others. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel public areas were clean, tidy and well managed.

We had booked on a bed and breakfast basis and the breakfast was plentiful, well presented and served in a spacious dining room with little or no waiting involved.

Our room was excellent. We were expecting a standard room, and were given a Senior Suite!!!! This comprised 3 separate rooms, a huge balcony and quality furnishings. The bathroom was vast with a jacuzzi bath big enough for swimming.

There were never any problems getting a sun lounger in a decent spot and little signs of people reserving beds at the crack of dawn.

So far so good. So what was wrong with the place?

On closer inspection, the hotel has some tired areas, in need of a lick of paint or renovation.

Should it rain you might wish to swim indoors? Not here you won't as the hotel doesn't have an indoor pool. If you pay 21 euros each per day you can use the facilities of a separate spa which is part of the hotel complex. If you don't pay, you don't use.

Also the hotel has no gym facilities for its guests to use.

Our room, as grand as it was had no tea/coffee making facilities nor did it have an iron or ironing board. This of course is a trifling matter when one only has to phone reception to whistle up the appropriate equipment. Except for one thing.... they don't have irons for guest usage!!!

Asking at reception we were told that this facility wasn't available, but we could, if we wished, rent one which the hotel would be happy to arrange. I asked the receptionist if he was joking and he assured me that he was not.

Overall the hotel was comfortable and for us at least the room was a bonus. 5 star? No.

Stayed at the Gran Tacande in mid-January having picked the hotel based on (1) TripAdvisor reviews and (2) a detailed examination of the map on Google Earth.
I was not disappointed.
The location is perfect – between Playa Fanabe, with its restaurants, Playa del Duque with its soft sand, right across the road from the Plaza del Duque shopping center (NB the Netto supermarket on the basement floor) and facing the most luxurious Bahia del Duque hotel. Make sure though that you don’t get a room facing the construction site at Bahia del Duque even if you plan to spend most of the time outside the hotel – construction started really early and was sometimes heard before 8 am.
The rooms have been well described on this site and would have been perfect had the basic amenities included a tea maker and an iron (with a board). If you want a tea maker and an iron, the hotel will rent these for you at a cost of EUR 15 and EUR 30 per week, respectively.
Breakfast was plentiful and varied (though I appreciated that the caviar was always on the menu).
The hotel arranges sightseeing trips through a local agency at reasonable prices (Mount Teide half-day EUR 20, Loro Parque EUR 40). Get ready for an early start though, as the coach will likely pick you up first (the pick-up for Mount Teide was at 7.20).
The free wi-fi service in the lobby worked fine and proved very useful.

Tried the SPA once for massage, which was perfect.
On the downside, virtually no one at the hotel apart from reception staff speaks English. Some English speaking staff at the SPA would be particularly helpful!
In addition, the hotel walls and windows are all but sound proof so get ready for some noisy nights. At night, I could hear every snore of my neighbors and every bit of the evening entertainment at the bar.
Overall, the hotel’s +’s clearly outweigh the –‘s. if I come back to Tenerife (which I’d love to do), Gran Tacande will definitely be number one on my list!

We have just returned from a week at the Dream Hotel Gran Tacande. I read a lot about it on Trip Advisor and everything is exactly as others have pointed out: great hotel, very clean; we had a big room, a big beautiful bathroom, and huge and comfortable bed.

The hotel is in the best architectonic area of the island, close to everything you need.

Excellent price/quality ratio with staff always ready to help.

Internet point available (9 euros per hour- a bit on the expensive side- but keeps kids away!)

Last but not least: right out of the hotel there is a beautiful promenade by the sea!

Loved it and we will definitely go back as soon as possible!!
