Stayed for 5 nights, leaving on 27th March. It was fine but didn't quite measure up to the hotel we'd had the previous 5 nights at - the Hotel Playa la Arena in the resort of the same name.
The Riu has a nice pool area and the rooms are small but bright. We'd asked for doubles but got singles pushed together (went with 2 friends and they like the Arena hotel better too). We asked for top floor and didn't get that either. It may sound trifling but we'd actually made the booking in June last year so you might have hoped that 9 months was enough notice to get the little details right.
The air con wasn't very powerful and may not be strong enough against the summer heat.
We found the hotel noisy at night - surprising given that the rooms were carpeted. The walkways weren't carpeted however and people could be heard coming and going at all hours - not rowdily, just making their way to their rooms. Also, I don't think the fabric of the building is very dense, so sounds (water, flushing toilets, cupboards being opened etc,) seemed to travel right through the building.
The food is nice but the 'sittings' business is a bit restrictive - its nice to be able to decide when you want to eat rather than be expected at a given time. That said, there's a good selection and its nicely presented.
Reading other people's comments about the resident band made me laugh - so very accurate!
It's a fair walk to Torviscas and I think that the area would benfit from a few more independent bars and shops - the 4* and 5* hotels are all nice but a bit of local character wouldn't go amis.
All in all, this is a decent hotel and had we not just come from one which was slightly better, I'm sure we have given it a top rating.
