“Not good value at the Stuart House Hotel”

Stuart House Hotel

5 Feb 2007

I was disappointed with the quality of the accommodation, particularly the room.
It was a standard double room which, in my view, was small with not a great deal of room to move.
The equipment in the room was dated - very large old TV, ancient electric kettle that took forever to boil and the bathroom needs renovation. The shower attachment did not work properly and was falling apart and the cold water tap was very difficult to turn off. As a result, I had to shower in another room.
Not a good place for the first 2 nights of married life. In fact very disappointing, especially as I was questioned by the boss regarding the shower faults, having reported the problem the day before. His initial comment was "You do have a bath".
In my opinion not good value for money.
However, the staff working there were very pleasant.

As the title says, it was ok. It is clean, the staff are freindly...but...and you can hear the but before it gets here. The food lets it down. I had a steak and kidney pudding which was unremarkable. I also had the mushroom rissotto which was supposed to be made from field mushrooms. The sauce was bland and I did something I have never done in my life. I added salt. I never add salt I don't like it. It made it a bit better. Also I think the mushrooms were the same mushrooms that we had at breakfast, they certainly looked like it, tiny little button mushrooms. And I think the mushrooms at breakfast were tinned. They had that salty, briny taste that tinned mushrooms have. The sausage left a lot to be desired as well. As somewhere to stay it is fine. But if you want something to eat I suggest going elsewhere.

Stayed here overnight and was most impressed by the quiet location and warm welcome. The bar does a good range of beers. I enjoyed the evening meal - good thought out menu - and wine list. Breakfast wasn`t quite as good with slower service and I thought rather a stuffy atmosphere, but this may have been the mix of people rather than the hotel`s fault.

My room was small and there was a need for better soundproofing between rooms and banging doors etc, but everything you wanted was there and it was lovely and clean. The hotel also has wi-fi which is very useful.

If you like guest houses this is a very nice one. The location is great and the staff helpful and friendly.

“Quite a nice hotel but room was tiny”

We stayed at this hotel for one evening on Friday 22nd September. The hotel is set in a nice location on the outskirts of the town. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and the breakfasts were good but not nothing to shout about. However, we stayed in a double room (room 11) which was so tiny. Not enough room to swing a kitten, never mind a cat!!. There was also no bracket to hold the shower head (which I believe is a safety hazard) and no shower curtain. Despite the tiny room and basic facilities, the room was clean and the furnishings tasteful.
Would I stay here again? yes, but I would insist on a larger room with proper shower facilities.

Overall, a decent hotel although at £75 for B+B, we felt this was too pricey for what you get.

“6 kings in the house of Stuart!”

Stuart House Hotel

Chose this hotel becuase it was near the station and renowned for real ales. What a find. We (6 x 37-50yr old lads prepearing for a wedding 20 miles away the following day) were made most welcome. The bar was great and great choice of ale, not what you would normally expect from a hotel. Great location - down a country lane in the middle of town! - suberb. Rooms more than adequate, breakfast 10/10 - and served at the table the old fashioned way. Staff friendly and efficent. This Hotel is definately worth a visit (I definately will again - with or without my 5 chums!)
