My husband and I have just returned from a one night stay at the Tudor Rose Hotel. Don't get me wrong, we weren't expecting anything plush - we just wanted somewhere to lay our heads for the night as we were in the area for a wedding and knew that we would be spending little time at the hotel. However, to say that we were disappointed with the hotel is a total understatement. The room was damp and unclean and the bathroom was the type which made you not want to sit on the toilet seat and the shower was like a cupboard - you couldn't have fit in there if you tried (which we didn't!). Our room was next to the courtyard/smokehouse and the smell of cigarette smoke coming from there was far from pleasant. However, the worst bit was the noise. OK, it was a Saturday night and we're not opposed to a bit of noise with people coming and going after a night out, but this was ridiculous - gangs of drunks hung round the corridors shouting and banging on doors 'til 4 in the morning. When we finally got to sleep about an hour after that, we were woken by the sound of more shouting and arguing - we got the distinct impression that this was not a hotel at all - it was more like a doss house or dodgy bedsit for people working nights. We ended up driving back home at 6 in the morning. We weren't planning on having breakfast there anyway - after the unhygienic state of the room, God knows what grease laden excuse for a meal they'd have served up. It claims to have 2 AA stars which is rubbish, they are not AA listed at all. I shall be writing to the relevant regulatory body, but won't hold my breath! My one piece of advice to anyone who is thinking of staying here is - do so at your own risk!
