“Fabulous dining”

This place is a real find. The rooms are attractive and the hosts most friendly. Above all however Paul the owner/chef prides himself in excellent cuisine. He provided some of the best food we have had anywhere in the world, and excellent wines as well. We have been around a bit and would not hesitate to recommend this to our closest friends.

We had a lovely overnight stay at the Belfry en route back from Cornwall to London. We were offered a choice of rooms and chose Coleridge which was very spacious. Lots of extra touches including bathrobes, cloth for shoe cleaning, sewing kit, hot water bottle etc which were most appreciated. We had dinner in the hotel and then went across the road to the pub, a lovely country pub with friendly locals, apparently good food and a skittle alley upstairs! When I think that the cost of a night at the Belfry is only £20 more than taking pot luck on a B&B I am amazed that there have been any negative comments at all. The rooms were clean, well looked after with good quality bed linen and our breakfast was delicious. Yes, the bells chime but that is a unique part of being in the country, and yes, we could hear the road, but not to a disturbing level. On Katies recommendation we went to Beer the next day (we had also been recommended this by the locals at the pub but we were concerned they were pulling our leg!) a gorgeous English coastal village, less than 30 minutes away...

I have been visiting The Belfry Country Hotel for a number of years - taking time out form a very busy job to recharge in one of the most picturesque parts of England.

I have always been made extremely welcome by Katie and Paul and regret the day, at the end of my stay, when I have to leave to return home.

The food is exemplary and made more so in that I use my break to walk the South Coastal Path and always manage to work up an appetite by the end of each day! Paul’s culinary skills are worth waiting for and both he and Katie always make their visitors at ease and part of their home during a stay.

If you enjoy good food and wish your holiday to be in pleasant surroundings, and even more pleasant company, then The Belfry Country Hotel should be at the top of your list of places to visit.

“weekend away”

The Belfry Country Hotel

We had a relaxing and most enjoyable weekend on the 23/24 Sept. Katie and Paul Blake (owners) bent over backwards to make us feel welcome and comfortable - nothing was too much trouble for them.
The hotel is full of charm and character and kept immaculately clean and tidy.
We ate in the hotel on both nights and were never disappionted with the standard of the food. It was original, well presented and made with locally sourced produce. The dining room provides both an intimate and a sociable atmosphere in which to relax and unwind.
We will not hesitate in recommending The Belfry to our friends and hope to return ourselves in the near future.

P.S. The sausages! Oh the sausages! If Walls could make anything like them there"d be no Veggies
P.P.S. Mr. Pink makes an excellent night-cap!!!

We were welcomed into the hotel by our very friendly hosts- especially Mr Pink! They accommodated all of our needs and we felt that anything we could have wanted was provided.

We were shown into a beautiful room with good quality fittings and lovely finishing touches. There were soft waffle robes and top quality bed linen and towels. I even loved the toiletries provided! As we enjoyed a cup of good quality tea we prepared for dinner which yet another jewel in this hotels crown!

We were served a fabulous meal which was beautifully presented. It was clear so much thought and care had gone into each plate. The dishes were original and tasty and served by Katie who was a great host.

We felt so welcome it was almost like being with family - a great stay and I’m sure we’ll return sooner rather than later!
