We stayed 4 nights at the Harrabeer. Our hosts were friendly and helpful when we called to book. Then when we arrived we were offered complimentary tea. The room was spotlessly clean and had lots of touches I have seen in much more expensive hotels. Make up remover for the ladies (I so often forget mine), hairdryer, alarm clock and all the usual toiletries. The shower worked perfectly, the towels were soft and fluffy and there was lots of information about the hotel, what to do in emergencies, local tourist attractions etc. Our room had been made up as a twin when we had requested a double. This was not a big problem for us so we did not mention it (to be honest we are typically English and rarely complain!) but Amanda had noticed and apologised and had it made up for us as a double the next night.
The breakfasts were absolutely delicious and great variety. My husband loves the full English breakfast and had variations of that each day. Nothing was too much trouble. I was surprised to see pancakes and maple syrup with bacon (something I have eaten a lot in the US and Canada but don't usually see in English hotels). It was the best one I have ever had. The pancakes were thin and delicious and the bacon was definitely the best I have ever had. Not salty at all. Apparently all the meat at the hotel comes from local producers. We did not get a chance to have an evening meal so cannot comment on them but going by the breakfasts they would have been a treat.
We felt as if nothing was too much trouble for our friendly hosts, who both took the trouble to chat to us when they saw us. Even when we left we were offered a bottle of water for the journey as it was a hot day. We would highly recommend this hotel and will stay in it again whenever we visit Dartmoor.
