We arrived at the hotel and found the car park adjacent, sited on waste land with scribbled hand written signage.
We were greeted by friendly but disorganised staff, who had no record of our internet booking and eventually given our room key. The entrance and bar area was soul less.
The hotel is now in need of a complete refurbishment as paint and silicone sealant can only go so far. Carpets were worn, paper peeling, paint layered and chipped.
Rooms were basic with: TV, kettle and bedside lights powered by extension leads winding underneath the bed, the latter propped up on supporting timbers. Wallpaper was dated and peeling, the wardrobe rocky with an iron and board slung inside.
We ordered beers but returned them as they were off.
There is only so much silicone and layers of paint a building can take before a full refurbishment is required. Carpets were slightly soiled and again dated.
In defence the room was clean, as were towels and sheets and there were visual efforts of modernisation such as a wooden floor recently fitted in the en-suite bathroom and toiletries provided.
Breakfast was good and service again very friendly.
Checkout was the same disorganised affair, with again no record of our prepayment.
I would not return as the rates were too high (around double) for the experience offered.
