We took a chance on this B&B, and found a winner!
There were no recent reviews for this B&B, but the website looked great.
Castle Douglas was the last overnight stop on our 7-day road trip around Scotland.
We arrived at the B&B around 6:30pm, and were immediately welcomed in by Linda, the lady of the house. She even helped us with our bags up to our 2nd floor room.
My wife was amazed at the collection of orchids and the fragrant lillies dotting the staircase and 2nd floor hallway which was full of natural light.
Our amazement continued with the tastefully modern appointments in our room - a large 2-person glass shower stall, heated towel rack, wall-mounted LCD TV, a king-size bed, and ample room for our luggage.
We were directed about 3 blocks down the street for dinner at a restaurant/pub located in an inn. The food was tasty, and as has been our Scottish experience, the portions were generous.
The B&B is located on a quiet street a few blocks from the main street, so traffic noise is not an issue after dark.
After a decent sleep (although the mattress was a little soft for my liking), we had a breakfast that was AMAZING! Champagne, juices, cereals, FRESH grapefruit (I had 2!), and cooked to order eggs, black pudding, fried toast, etc.
It turns out that the owners only bought the B&B in the spring of 2007; they used to run a hotel (in Yorkshire?), but decided to semi-retire.
The only addition I would make to the amenities would be internet access for guests.
She was nice enough to do some laundry for us for a small charge.
All in all, this was a great place & is highly recommended.
note: To put this review in context, we usually stay at 3-star+ hotels. On this road trip, we have stayed at a combination of B&Bs, a hostel, and a mix of hotels.
