I think the key here is that you can't come here expecting a B&B. Although the kitchen is dirty, the fridge is empty, and the living room is outdated, this is the least disgusting hostel I've ever stayed in. There are two rooms of bunk beds that share a bathroom, and one private double room with its own bathroom. Since I'm not 18 anymore, I went with the private room. The bed was incredibly soft, and with two people sleeping on it, we both ended up sinking down into the middle together. I would imagine that may be problematic for some people.
The ceilings are also really low, so if you are tall, expect to bump your head at least a few times. This seems to be common in Wales, though. The bathroom in the double room has modern fixtures, and I had no complaints, as there was plenty of hot water. Other conveniences include free wifi, as well as a desktop if you don't have your own electronics. Also, check out the book selection in the computer room - tons of great picks.
I would stay here again for the sole purpose of hanging out with Steve (the owner) again. This guy is great; he lived in America for 14 years, worked off the coast of Alaska on fishing boats, hung out with Hell's Angels in Chicago. You name it, this guy has done it.
One thing I wasn't crazy about was the nighttime noise. We got back from a trip to Ireland around 1 am and the streets were filled with chavs (mostly outside the USA fried chicken.. lovely) shouting nonsense at each other and passerbys. Even from inside the hostel, we could hear people yelling all night, but it was Saturday, so maybe it's less loud during the week.
