It's a hotel that has eveyrthing going for it- a perfect location right on the water's edge. A recent well executed renovation of the interiors and exterior. Sadly the guarantee of coaches of silver haired package tourists has allowed the hotel to forget that service is paramount if the 4 star dream is to be delivered. It just does not deserve it's stars. 3 maybe but never 4.
The food is way short of a 4 star establishment. The set dinner menu is flacid and pre prepared - not what you'd expect in a luxury hotel. The a la carte isn't much better - it's all rather mushy and discoloured. The alfresco dining is a fabulous setting but the waiter managed to lose the order for 45 minutes - then when it did appear it looked like it had been loking for us for 45 minutes.
The bedroom - a junior suite in our case, was airy but again not a patch on other hotels in the area. The bathrooms are smart and functional.
Indoor and outdoor pools were pleasant and although small more than adequate for this time of year,
Probably it's reception that lets this hotell down most. They never volunteer to help or enquire if you're having a good stay. They all seem to sit absorbed by their computer screens with the odd adventure to the counter to take a bill payment. Even Buttons seemed to have lost the art of case carrying. When it comes to asking for assistance the attitude is worthy of 2 poor stars - they make you feel guilty for asking and certainly they would never consider stretching themselves a bit to help a guest out.
There is a lot better to be had on the island for the same or less money - possibly not with such a pretty setting but we did leave feeling shortchanged and that doesn't do a lot for feeling like going back.
