“Complacency spoils the service”

Hotel Illa D'or

It's a hotel that has eveyrthing going for it- a perfect location right on the water's edge. A recent well executed renovation of the interiors and exterior. Sadly the guarantee of coaches of silver haired package tourists has allowed the hotel to forget that service is paramount if the 4 star dream is to be delivered. It just does not deserve it's stars. 3 maybe but never 4.

The food is way short of a 4 star establishment. The set dinner menu is flacid and pre prepared - not what you'd expect in a luxury hotel. The a la carte isn't much better - it's all rather mushy and discoloured. The alfresco dining is a fabulous setting but the waiter managed to lose the order for 45 minutes - then when it did appear it looked like it had been loking for us for 45 minutes.
The bedroom - a junior suite in our case, was airy but again not a patch on other hotels in the area. The bathrooms are smart and functional.
Indoor and outdoor pools were pleasant and although small more than adequate for this time of year,
Probably it's reception that lets this hotell down most. They never volunteer to help or enquire if you're having a good stay. They all seem to sit absorbed by their computer screens with the odd adventure to the counter to take a bill payment. Even Buttons seemed to have lost the art of case carrying. When it comes to asking for assistance the attitude is worthy of 2 poor stars - they make you feel guilty for asking and certainly they would never consider stretching themselves a bit to help a guest out.
There is a lot better to be had on the island for the same or less money - possibly not with such a pretty setting but we did leave feeling shortchanged and that doesn't do a lot for feeling like going back.

“Fabulous relaxing break!”

Hotel Illa D'or

We fancied a quiet long weekend break in the sunshine so I did a google search for boutique hotels and found this one! It looked perfect and reviews were positive!
It was exactly what I was looking for - quiet, on the beach and overall ambiance was very relaxing!
The breakfast was fabulous - a fantastic selection of food - great fry up but lots of fresh fruit and continental choices as well.
Tennis courts were great - but beware they charged for court hire which wasn't stated anywhere in the literature - our only gripe!
Beds alongside the sea - despite the hotel requesting no reservations - they were obviously reserved and as space is limited - advise you to follow suit!
Indoor pool and jacuzzi - lovely!
Rooms - very nicely furnished and you get robes too which is great - beds turned down in the evening with a chocolate!
All in all a wonderful location - a 15 min stroll into the Port where there are lots of fab restaurants. I would definitely return here to this beautiful spot!

This was our second visit to the Illa D'or, this time for a 4 night break in early June.
I booked superior rooms and requested a balcony for my companions. In fact, we were all allocated rooms with balconies, one of which was the 'tennis court' referred to in an earlier review, and we were very happy about this one - great place to have a drink, listen to music and even used room service to dine there on one occasion!
The service from Reception and breakfast waiters (we didn't eat in the main restaurant in the evening) was helpful and courteous, and the terrace bar waiters were particularly attentive and friendly.
The food at breakfast was good, with fresh fruit, cheeses, meats, breads, pastries and hot offerings.
On one evening we ate at the hotel's La Terrassa Restaurant overlooking the sea, which was lovely, well presented, fresh perfectly cooked meats and fish, and a choice of fine wines, but it's not pizza and a beer, so expect to pay a price for it!
There's an indoor and outdoor pool. The outdoor pool is in shade for part of the day, so sun worshippers might be better on the hotel's sunbeds just in front of the hotel, next to the beach.
There's a gym, but we didn't use it :(
This hotel is in a lovely spot, the views over the bay of Pollensa are fabulous. We often strolled along Pine Walks to the centre of the resort for a drink, snack etc, but have to say, it was always lovely to come back to the Illa D'or!
It does indeed attract a 'mature' clientele, but in my view, it would also appeal to anyone of any age who would enjoy a hotel with a more traditional atmosphere, without being stuffy and pretentious.
One of our group had a birthday whilst we were there, which I had mentioned in a passing conversation with the Manager, Snr Salom. We were greeted by a bottle of champagne on our return to the hotel that evening which I thought was a lovely touch. This sums up our experience at this hotel. We love it!

“So relaxing!”

We have just come back from a weeks holiday and it was perfect.
We booked direct with the hotel, and we paid for a superior room, we also requested a sea view with a balcony. The hotel did reply to us and stated that they acknowledged our request and told us that they would try and ensure we got one but they would not guarantee it (which is fair enough).

When we got there the hotel was perfect, the staff were very quick and efficient, it took just 5 mins from getting out of the taxi, to checking in, to being in our room unpacking. When we were shown to our room we got what we requested and had a perfect view and balcony at the front of the hotel. The room was small (ish), but it had everything we needed... at the end of the day we did not go on holiday to sit in our room!!

We found the hotel did have a number of older folk, but we are early 30's and found that they was an equal number of people our age. All the staff at the bar and the restaurant we very friendly and could not do enough for us.

The sun loungers area is small as some folk have mentioned, and if you want one of them you do have to be up with the birds!, but they is beach area all around. Also the pool is in the shade for most of the day, but it is a nice pool.

Looking at the other hotels in this area, i would say that this is the best if you are looking for a chilled holiday, we just wanted to sit in the sun away from the hustle and bustle. The hotel is approx 15 mins walk to the centre down pine walk (flat shoes needed as its crazy paving!!!, (or pop your flip flops in your handbag!). If you want something that is in the busier area then this hotel is not for you.

We went B&B as we like to go out for our dinner. Something that some people don’t know is that you can have your breakfast outside, on the patio. We also ate in out side restaurant twice and on both occasions the meals were wonderful (but quite expensive)

I would defiantly go back and recommend it to all ages of people who want to stay in a hotel that is towards the higher end of the market.
