We have just arrived home from the San Roque Hotel and we just can say that we really enjojed our four days there.

The room, the staff , the atmosphere and the place itself made a perfect place.

We have been a few timed before in Tenerife and I always lloked at this hotel. This yera, we wanted some relax and no excursions just, books, swimming pool, a bottle of wine... and this is waht we got, so...perfect.

One final thing, if you go to Garachico and you wish a nice meal the place is " Casa Gaspar ", I really enjojed ( and I love eating and drinking )

MAny thanks

“Welcoming and comfortable retreat”

Hotel San Roque

My wife and I went to San Roque to escape the mid-January blues in London. The weather was not as good as we expected, but to be able to eat all my meals outside when it is freezing at home is some treat.

We arrived after midnight due to a delayed flight. It then takes 90 mins to the hotel from Reina Sur. When we arrived we were greeted by one of the very friendly staff. Realising we had missed dinner they had laid a plate of ham, cheese, bread and fruit in our room. A very nice touch.

We stayed in the Tower Suite. It is a three level room (ground is bathroom and sitting room, middle is bedroom and top is terrace). The room feels private and is certainly worth the extra Euros. Large, comfortable bed in a room overlooking the sea. All mods cons, TV, DVD, CD player. CDs and DVDs are available for free (amazing that some hotels still charge) and there were plenty of both - perfect for the one day of persistent rain we had.

The food is very good, with breakfast and dinner served around the pool. Every day you are shown the menu in the morning (one choice for each course) and you confirm if you want to partake. My wife eats no meat - no problem, she would have fish instead if meat was on the menu. For EU 26 a head for three courses, this was good value, we felt. An almost entirely Spanish wine list had interesting variety and was mostly around the EU 15-25 mark.

You are far from the madding crowd in Garachico (we recommend a car) and it is easy to get up to Teno national park where we walked for a couple of days in the stunning scenery you will have to yourselves.

Seriously relaxing holiday in a comfortable and welcoming hotel.

Found this place last year and loved it so much we returned again. We own and run a restaurant and go for peace and relaxation before the christmas parties start, unfortunately this was not to be, a 22 bedroomed boutique hotel with enclosed courtyards and wooden floors is not condusive to small children and new born babies, of which there were 5 during our stay. The chef has been replaced and the food was terrible, one waitress in particular seemed to think clearing and resetting tables was more important than serving guests, in short standards had not merely slipped but plummeted since last year. We will be returning to Garachico but sadly not to this hotel.

An hotel in the Canaries with real character. It has been beautifully restored, with wood in abundance and we were delighted. It is on the north coast of Tenerife and in an untoursity village, this is so unlike the normal vision of the Canaries. Not a fish 'n' chip shop or building higher than 3 stories in sight.

Very friendly staff. The restaurant is good value bearing in mind the high quality of the food and wine. Great (much cheaper) local pizza restaurant just down the road too, and some other restaurants along the sea front and around the village square.

Hotel also organised a pre-dinner concert in the courtyard.

I recommend asking for a room around the main courtyard, avoiding one on the first floor around (small) swimming pool, since breakfast and dinner is served around the pool. While no one is noisy, it is that much quieter to be in the other area.

There is a excellent roof terrace, although pitch your towels there early because space is a little limited.

NB: Neither the hotel nor the village are suitable at all for children. This is a place to read and relax. There are no beaches or distracting activities. That said, I'd strongly recommend hiring a car for 2 days and doing a trip round the NW coast - stunning and lush valleys: I didn't know Tenerife looked like this. Also go up the volcano, but get there by late morning to avoid queuing for the cable car when the coaches arrive from the much busier south of the island.

My wife and I are specialists on island vacations (Madeira, Gozo, Mauritius, Mull, Chief's Island (Mombo), Isla Baha; okay, PEI, Hong Kong, Singapore, Key West, Bermuda, Caribbean Islands and our island home, Manhattan). The best of these trips was spent at Reid's which today, as an Orient Express property, is probably far too expensive. Second, Mombo (Bots). Third, San Roque in the Isla Baha. An excellent property. Great French-Spanish family owner-management. Attentive staff. Located in the one of the two or three genuinely attractive towns on Tenerife. Entertainment and restaurant were very enjoyable. Room decor and art in public areas of the 500 year-old property were outstanding.
