This must have been our 12th visit to Creagan House, and it was as wonderful as ever. Our room had been quite recently re-decorated, in a style entirely consonant with the age and character of the building - lovely fabrics and colours. The attention to detail and the cleanliness of all rooms (few hotel bathrooms are as clean as all those here - and we have stayed in nearly all of the rooms) are both consistently amazing. Dinner was up to Gordon's usual high standard - imaginative, beautifully cooked and carefully and professionally served by Cherry and Susan. Wine, as always, is from an interesting list, well-kept and at the right temperature! A good night's sleep in the comfortable bed was suitably followed by one of Gordon's excellent breakfasts, with locally sourced ingredients, freshly squeeezed orange juice and home-made marmalade.
We'll be back!

We have stayed here many times and it always makes a special occasion extra special.
Before you can get to the front door Cherry is there to welcome you to this excellent hotel that pays so much attention to detail and guest's comfort. Our usual antique filled four poster room had everything a guest could want. Filter coffee and not instant, crystal glasses for drinking water and giant fluffy bath towels. These things speak volumes about a hotel. However, the real treat is the food. Not just a meal but a complete gourmet dining experience. The elegant baronial dining room setting does justice to the food. Gordon the chef always finds new dishes and taste combinations where the same creative skill and perfection is evident in the vegetables and accompaniments as it is in the rest of the meal. Add to this the extensive wine list and you can see why Creagan House is one of our favourite places.

This hotel is trading on its long held reputation. Granted it is a restaurant with rooms but the room we had was small, dated (so 80's) paper thin walls and rather poky bathroom. The bed was barely a double but comfortable enough for one night. The evening meal was patchy in standard, an excellent starter then a never-ending wait for main course. Of the two meals we had one excellent fillet steak and one very hard/overcooked pork fillet. The dessert was very mediocre. Having said that the breakfast in the morning was quite quickly served and it proved one of the best during our eight day stay in Scotland. The room was expensive for the quality (£120) and we were not amused to be charged £5.75 for a tray of tea that we were invited to take on our arrival. Everywhere else we stayed this was complimentary. The restaurant is bleak and you are made to feel as if you are in a church service rather than on an evening out. Gordon the "chef" is talked about in hushed and revered tones but we never saw him and I can't say it was justified. Get a life Creagan House..this is probably why you have dropped out of the Good Hotel Guide.

what a wonderful experience! My husband and I and 8 friends booked all 5 rooms in the hotel for 6 nights in early September and also had a dinner party for 20 for the 50th birthday celebration. what can i say - super location; wonderful accommodation; exquisite food and wines; extremely competent hosts who incidentally take care of everything on their own and it shows in the results. Loved our stay; were unhappy to leave and look forward to go back again. Cherry and Gordon (and Budd the Gordon setter) - thank you for making our celebrations so special!!

“Attention to detail”

Small restaurant with rooms professionally run by owners with much attention to detail. Very good quality food at reasonable prices served in a rather quirky 'Baronial' dining room. Small but comfortable bedroom. Close to main road but quiet at rear. Everything about the hotel was well thought out and presented.
