We stayed at Creagan House for 3 days during a 10 day holiday in Scotland and I cannot stress how good this place is. It is run by the owners and the customer service is outstanding. The room was beautifully furnished with lots of little extras and was exceptionally clean. This is not the whole story however. The food must be eaten to be believed and is some of the best we have been served. Its based on french cuisine but with fresh scottish ingredients and the menus change daily. The wine list is impressive too. The food is served in an impressive dining room and adds to the occasion.

If you are wondering about booking here - take a tip from an experienced traveller - you won't get better - book it now, go and enjoy. We'll certainly be back for more. We are missing the food already. Thanks Cherry and Gordon, you are true pros.

“A warm welcome”

Creagan House and Restaurant

A warm welcome from Cherry awaited us on our arrival at Creagan House. We were given the only 4 poster room which was very nice and the en-suite bathroom had lovely soaps and fluffy towels and even one towelling robe. We found Cherry to be very friendly and helpful but saw very little of Gordon who spent all his time in the kitchen. It appeared that Cherry and Gordon run the hotel and restaurant singlehandedly.

The restaurant is in a large 'baronial room' which is completely without atmosphere. There are probably about 10 tables in this room. On the days that we were there only three were in use and everyone spoke in whispered voices. There was no background music and the only sounds that could be heard were of cutlery scraping across the plates. Gordon is a perfefctionist and the quality of his food is wonderful, However, you must be prepared to wait up to half an hour for your meal, or even the fabulous scrambled eggs with smoked salmon that he makes for breakfast. If you can put up with this, then its definitely worth the visit.

Incidentaly, on the night that we were there, a guest told Cherry that a bat had just come in her bedroom window and had followed her into the hall. This didnt seem to cause surprise to either Cherry or Gordon. Apparently there is a colony of bats that live at the back of the house and we were told that it was unusual for them to fly into the house (usually to look for a missing baby). Eventually Cherry was able to persuade the bat out of the window!

I booked Creagan House as a surprise whilst on holiday for my Husbands 40th Birthday, and we were so impressed by what we ate and the wonderful accomadation that we cancelled the last night in our Hotel to spend it at Creagan House, and again had a fantastic stay.
Cherry and Gordon have obviously worked very hard to achieve the standard that guests enjoy. Nothing is too much trouble for Cherry who greets you at the door and makes you feel welcome, we had our dog with us and he settled into our lovely room which was exceptionally clean and well equiped.
What can I say about Gordons food, except, go and try it. We eat out in good restaurants and I have never tasted scallops like Gordons, I even had them again on the second stay. The food is cooked and served in the most amazing dining room with love and attention to detail, home made rolls, fresh local produce, four different veg, and a cheese board that would put the French to shame.
The only fault is they are over 500 miles away from us, but as Cherry says " You have to leave, so you can come back", and we will if in the area without a doubt, go back.

“A truely amazing experience”

This review is very easy to do. The Hotel is situated in the middle of some truely stunning scenery just off the road but there was no disturbance from traffic at night.
The room was beautiful, comfortable and the rest of the house was just as nice. No Tv but it's not missed here with a warm fire and good company.

The food, oh my god, is amazing and cooked to perfection and the wine list is massive also. I really cannot stress how great this place is for a relaxing break with so much to see and do in the area. Their dining hall would be perfect for a get together or party.

You must come and stay here - worth every penny.

“A great find!”

We spent two very relaxing days here over the festive period. The emphasis is very much on the food that they serve, and very special food it is. Cherry is rightly proud of her husband's (Gordon) skills in the kitchen; the welcome and service is warm and efficient. With many smaller hotels, one often has the impression of imposing on one's hosts, but this was far from our thoughts. Last point on the dining room -- one of the most impressive small dining rooms we have seen. Will certainly go back, most likely with other friends.
