i booked the hotel through hotels.com, it was the best western inn when i started this adventure when i call to confirmed reservations they couln't find them at first finally they did. they had us in a non-smoking room where i requested smoking. when we arrive at the hotel again they had us in a non-smoking room. but they did change it. but no fridge in room. we were there for two nights and then coming back on sunday to check back in. before we left on thursday we asked if they could get a fridge in our room because we would be there for four more days. they said no problem. we arrived back on sunday and checked back in ,no fridge liked promised. i asked to see the manager, he was off they said they would leave a note for the manager, but we never heard from him or even saw him. and only 13 channels thats really sad. we had to stay at another hotel because we got back in town to early sat. but where we stayed had many tv channels and it was a cheap hotel. i believe they were discriminating against people who smoke. i will never recommend this hotel to anyone...

We were evacuated at 1:00 a.m. from this hotel after a city fire department inspection revealed severe code violations, including inoperable sprinkler and alarm systems, stuck exit doors, and non-functional fire hose hookups. Hotel management was rude, unapologetic, and did almost nothing for the 100+ guests that had to pack up and leave. Need I say more?

This hotel was just terrible. Our room had ripped carpeting, an unpleasant smell, and stains on the bedspread. Friends staying in another room had cigarette burns in their sheets. The common areas were clean, but the rooms are deplorable. You will regret staying here.

You won't mistake the Best Western University Inn for a luxury hotel, but I was comfortable staying there for 3 nights. The first night I was in a room facing University St., which was very noisy. The next morning they gladly moved me to a back room; if one hadn't been available my review would be significantly different. The rooms are clean and comfortable, if a little worn. I found the staff pleasant and helpful. The only thing that really bothered me was a lack of drinking glasses and ceramic coffee mugs in the room; styrofoam cups only. But that is pretty minor, there are plenty of far worse places to stay in Berkeley.
