I chose the La Quinta after looking at several other hotel options and reviews in the local area. Most local hotels are on the higher end of the rate range although they are midrange and economy hotels. Since this location is seasonal I suppose they are trying to squeeze every dime out while they can.

The hotel was nice and recently remodeled. The rooms were nice but average sized. The bathroom was incredibly tight but fresh and clean and recently remodeled. The beds were in good condition and comfortable and the linens were soft and of good quality. The room was quiet and everything worked although the HVAC unit was a bit old. The hotel has only two floors but has no elevator which would be a problem for many people. The hotel also does not have a pool or spa so that may be a deal breaker for some as well. The hotel has a large breakfast area and free continental breakfast which was decent and typical for selection. Overall I was very happy but thought it was over-priced for what you get.

Los Angeles

We stayed at this hotel for one night on our drive down the 395 from Lake Tahoe to Los Angeles. We should have kept on driving and stayed at the Best Western in Lone Pine. Bishop is not a very cute town and the La Quinta had some problems. First, take note: there is no pool. We should have researched this better before making the reservation, but in this part of the state in August the temp was around 110 and a pool would've been real nice. The receptionist - not the sharpest tool in the shed - suggested we go to the public pool in the park across the street, but when we walked over there ten minutes later it was closed, and there were bums camped out in the park. That didn't stop our daughter from playing on the playground equipment, which was nice and in good condition. Later, we tried to purchase a soda from the vending machine at the hotel and it ate our money. When we told the receptionist, she stared at us blankly and said, "I got a soda out of there." O-kaaaay, Good for you! We didn't get our buck twenty five back. We asked her if there was HBO in the rooms and she said, "I don't know." There wasn't. Our room was quite comfortable and clean, but the air conditioner was excessively loud. In the morning, the young man at the front desk who was also setting out the free continental breakfast would growl "WHAT!!!" to himself everytime the phone rang, in plain earshot of me and several other hotel guests in the lobby. Then he would pick up the phone and put on a different voice and say, "Front desk?" It was a little unsettling. Also, he left his grungy sandals on a chair in the breakfast area. And the waffle iron needed a good cleaning. Needless to say, we opted to grab breakfast from the McDonald's drive thru across the street and high-tail it straight out of Bishop.

“Nice but needed a pool”

After a 4.5 mile in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, 11k up in the White Mountains, we looked forward to jumping in the pool at The La Quinta. It was easily 100 degrees that afternoon. But alas, no pool and no patio, deck or lounge to enjoy a cool drink. Cocktails in the room had to do. The room was nice, though with a great recliner. The best part about La Quinta was its close proximity to the wonderful Schatz Bakery. The array of breads, pastry and other delicasies is not to be missed. Next time we are in Bishop, I'll be looking for a motel with a pool.

You wouldn't think that a small town that has no "big" stores could have some decent places to eat and to stay at. La Quinta makes you feel that you are in a big city because the rooms are clean and the employees are friendly, polite, and helpful. It's hard to stay in some of the other hotels or motels even if the price is less simply because the atmosphere makes you want to plan your next stay. Just a little FYI. We have been going to Bishop for the past 2-3 years and found that the "Village Cafe and the Bishop Cafe" have the best food in town. We'll keep going back.
Happy travelers L & B.

We chose La Quinta because we had been pleased with an earlier experience in North Las Vegas. It was centrally located, had a welcoming reception area, with free internet access, and Bishop seemed like a nice small town.

Our room was spacious, clean and even had a reclining arm chair, which yours truly was happy to settle into after a breathtaking drive across Death Valley and the Owens Valley.

Breakfast offered a large choice and we were very happy with our evening meal in a nearby Chinese Restaurant. We had plenty of other eating options.

We would have happily extended our stay as Bishop has a beautiful setting among the mountains but we had to be on our way. This too proved to be a wonderful experience as the road north to Mammoth Lakes provided more outstanding scenery as it climbed to almost 8,000'.

If possible, we will return to Bishop, allowing more time to explore the area, and won't hesitate to stay at La Quinta.
