I felt the hotel didn't live up to my expectations after looking at its web site and was rather disappointed.

I have tried to provide both positive and negative comments below. Depending on what you are looking for, I would suggest carefully reviewing all the other options before booking.

Half the rooms face directly over the parking lot (with cars parked about 6 feet away from the patio) and the other half, over the pool (which doesn't close until 11pm and can be noisy). This was a shame considering how beautiful the views could have been. The buildings were rather spartan looking from the outside and seemed to lack character.

We had a ground floor room and could easily hear the folks walking around upstairs. Make sure you opt for one on the upper level. You will also have a better view of the mountains (we only saw the cars!)
Beds have an extreme 'pillow top' matress, very firm pillows and each room has its own, very noisy, AC unit. We didn't get a good nights sleep!

The rooms were clean although there was a squashed large black beetle on the threshold to our room when we arrived and it remained there for the duration of our stay.

The web site promoted their range of pink grapefruit lotions and potions but they provided just regular nondescript toiletries. Either they were temporarily out of stock or this no longer applies.

The room contained a microwave, fridge and coffee maker. Coffee was provided (no tea) but the powdered creamer is insufficient, so either buy milk (or take a small carton from the breakfast buffet) and store it in the fridge.

The Arches restaurant was a throwback from the 70s in terms of style and decor. It closes at 9pm. The dinner menu was quite comprehensive and some food quite good (the house salad, french fries and hot chocolate cake in particular). The wine list was also very reasonably priced for decent quality wine.

The venison entree was very chewy and almost inedible so they immediately removed it from the bill and also gave us free deserts. You can't ask fairer than that.

Continental breakfast was included for the duration of our stay. The coupon we were given at check-in suggested it was cereal OR pastries OR...... It turned out to be a buffet and we were able to help ourselves to everything. That was good value!

All in all, I was rather disappointed with the hotel. It wasn't as luxurious as I had expected and almost felt like a motel. If I had been playing golf all day or sitting with kids by the pool, maybe it would have been ideal. I will try somewhere else in Borrego Springs next time.

We were given a suite with a king bed, sofa bed and kitchenette. Perfect for traveling with our 5 year old. Pool was warm and large. All staff was very helpful. Continental breakfast was adequate but were able to add a large omelette off the full breakfast menu. Ask for an upstairs room as we could hear the people above walking around. Not a problem as they seemed to retire the same time we did. Rooms were spotless. Bed linens very comfortable. This hotel is not luxurious but great for the price and comfort. would definetly stay again.

“Great Value Though Imperfect”

My partner and I spent three nights at the Borrego Springs Resort in the middle of Sept 06, just at the end of the hot summer (and low) season.

Pluses:
1) A one bedroom "suite" with a king bed, refrigerator, microwave, and outdoor patio for $115 is great value! The refrigerator with it's own ice maker was especially useful.
2) The bed is clearly the best feature of the room and comparable to Westin's Heavenly Bed.
3) The pool is large and well maintained, though the chemicals taste awful (bitter taste in the mouth) and leave your skin feeling very sticky.
4) The staff is very friendly and helpful.
5) Food in the Arches Restaurant is quite decent.

Minuses:
1) Overall decor is just a notch above a simple motel, with the bathroom being the least attractive (though functional). Bathroom amenities in our room included a bar of soap and body lotion. Fortunately, we had our own shampoo! The individual air conditioning units can be noisy especially since they have to run continuously with hot weather, and in a one bedroom "suite," there will be two air conditioning units.
2) Views are minimal--either overlooking the pool or a parking lot with the majority having the latter.
3) Fitness room is barely functional with a few pieces of cardiovascular equipment NOT including a treadmill. The facility, however, is very clean.
4) Arches Restaurant, the main dining room, is a throwback to the 1950's or 60's. The building, which is separate from the hotel, is clearly an old design and could use some updating. It looks like a multi-purpose room rather than a restaurant. The number of waitstaff seemed inadequate during the middle of the week when business was expected to be low. Unfortunately, when we were there enough guests wanted to dine that the single waitperson was clearly overwhelmed.
5) High speed wireless internet access is provided in the main lobby but not in guest rooms--not a terrible inconvenience.

While the minuses I've listed seem to outweigh the pluses, overall I would say Borrego Springs is a decent and pleasant place to stay especially compared to it's very expensive competition La Casa del Zorro. If management corrected some of he minuses Borrego Springs Resort would rise above the general impression that it's better times were in the past.

We stopped here for one night so that we could explore Anza-Borrego Park (highly recommended!) Rooms were large, beautifully furnished, and spotlessly clean. Nice breakfast included in attractive dining room, nice sauna and swimming pool, and friendly staff. Definitely a great deal!!

“Nice oasis in the desert”

We spent 1 night at the resort during Spring Break last week as a stopover to explore the Anza Borrego Desert. We had a 1BR suite with a king bed and foldout couch in the living room for our sons. The room had a kitchenette with its own little icemaker and a nice balcony. The bedding was particularly nice. We ended up eating dinner at the resort as there's not a whole lot of restaurants in the area and they are spread out. It didn't matter because the dinner and service were very good. We were able to have the continental breakfast on the patio looking out on the golf course. Very nice.
