I felt the hotel didn't live up to my expectations after looking at its web site and was rather disappointed.
I have tried to provide both positive and negative comments below. Depending on what you are looking for, I would suggest carefully reviewing all the other options before booking.
Half the rooms face directly over the parking lot (with cars parked about 6 feet away from the patio) and the other half, over the pool (which doesn't close until 11pm and can be noisy). This was a shame considering how beautiful the views could have been. The buildings were rather spartan looking from the outside and seemed to lack character.
We had a ground floor room and could easily hear the folks walking around upstairs. Make sure you opt for one on the upper level. You will also have a better view of the mountains (we only saw the cars!)
Beds have an extreme 'pillow top' matress, very firm pillows and each room has its own, very noisy, AC unit. We didn't get a good nights sleep!
The rooms were clean although there was a squashed large black beetle on the threshold to our room when we arrived and it remained there for the duration of our stay.
The web site promoted their range of pink grapefruit lotions and potions but they provided just regular nondescript toiletries. Either they were temporarily out of stock or this no longer applies.
The room contained a microwave, fridge and coffee maker. Coffee was provided (no tea) but the powdered creamer is insufficient, so either buy milk (or take a small carton from the breakfast buffet) and store it in the fridge.
The Arches restaurant was a throwback from the 70s in terms of style and decor. It closes at 9pm. The dinner menu was quite comprehensive and some food quite good (the house salad, french fries and hot chocolate cake in particular). The wine list was also very reasonably priced for decent quality wine.
The venison entree was very chewy and almost inedible so they immediately removed it from the bill and also gave us free deserts. You can't ask fairer than that.
Continental breakfast was included for the duration of our stay. The coupon we were given at check-in suggested it was cereal OR pastries OR...... It turned out to be a buffet and we were able to help ourselves to everything. That was good value!
All in all, I was rather disappointed with the hotel. It wasn't as luxurious as I had expected and almost felt like a motel. If I had been playing golf all day or sitting with kids by the pool, maybe it would have been ideal. I will try somewhere else in Borrego Springs next time.
