“Poor housekeeping, unfriendly staff”

Homewood Suites SFO Airport North

23 Apr 2008

This is our second time to stay at this hotel. We like the one bedroom setting, because it really suits our every need. The walls are thin but we were lucky to have quiet neighbors while we were there. One thing that bothered me the most is the housekeeping, they don't clean the room very well, e.g. vacuum cleaning was never done on our 5 days stay, I could see the dusts sitting on every corner of the room, it gives me the impression that the housekeeping just want to get over with their job as soon as possible not paying attention to details in cleaning. They never clean the toilet bowl, I doubt if they ever sanitized the toilet after each guest.
One of the dinning area staffs was unfriendly and impolite, I already made a complaint to the manager who told me that she would deal with the problem.

I booked a one night stay through Hotwire, at the Homewood Suites in Brisbane, as a stopover on our trip near SFO airport. The price was extremely good and this would have been a very good experience had it not been for some issues related to housekeeping/maintenance.

When we arrived at the hotel @ 3pm the computer was down so we couldn't check in. We decided to do some sightseeing so we took the free shuttle to the airport to pick up the BART train. We took it to the Powell street stop and hopped on a cable car to Fisherman's Wharf. After enjoying the rest of the day and grabbing some dinner we headed back to the hotel.

We checked in and when we entered the room, there was someone already occupying the room - we startled him out of bed! I went back to the front desk, advised the woman of what had happened, and she told me that housekeeping entered the room as cleaned and unoccupied in the system. She was sorry for the mistake and gave me a key to another room.

The room, although small, was well appointed and came with a kitchen area, living area with a pull out couch, one queen size bed and a large bathroom with large glass stall shower (no tub).

Unfortunately, the shower grout had mildew, the kitchen sink faucet was loose and coming out of the basin, the garbage under the kitchen sink was full, and there were no extra pillows or blankets for the pullout couch. Since there were three of us, it was very tight and a challenge for everyone to rest comfortably. I would not recommend this hotel for more than two people.

A plus was that breakfast was included and it consisted of hot (scrambled eggs, potatoes, make your own waffles etc.) and cold foods . Not great but not terrible. There was plastic up on one wall of the dining area where construction was occurring.

I think that this hotel would be a great option near the airport for no more than two people if management would require housekeeping to do a better job of cleaning and reporting room availability.

“Really nice room, but paper-thin internal walls...”

Homewood Suites SFO Airport North

My husband are currently staying at the Homewood Suites for 3 nights. We were supposed to stay in a different hotel, but because of the power outages to the area and our original hotel, we were redirected to stay at the Homewood Suites in Brisbane.

The room is a good size for the two of us. The room includes a nice kitchenette area with most kitchen utensils that would be needed, couch, desk, comfortable bed and pillows, and descent lighting (both natural and internal lighting). We are on the 4th floor overlooking the parking lot and freeway. Surprisingly not a lot of noise can be heard from the freeway, BUT the noise from adjoining rooms might be unbearable for some.

In the middle of the night (2 am-ish) we could hear talking and even sometimes the exact words being spoken from a tv that was on in an adjoining room. The tv sounds came on and off all night, which woke me and my husband briefly. We generally do fine with noises at night, but someone who is not able to sleep through some noise would have a very hard time sleeping at this hotel.

The breakfast was good, but also crowded area to eat (just lots of people). Making it positive, you can always take breakfast to your room, which I think is a lot nicer anyway.

My only major complaint is the noise heard from adjoining rooms. I would not recommend this hotel to those who have a hard time sleeping with some noise, nor those looking to stay more than a few nights.

“Nice place for airport stay”

We spent 1 night here after arriving very late into SFO. We booked this place on hotwire & it cost about $60 as we figured we'd probably miss the last BART & so might as well stay near SFO as we didn't have to rush back home. The airport shuttle had stopped running as our flight delay meant we arrived after 1 a.m. and it was much later by the the time we collected our luggage so we took a taxi. The room was equipped with cooking facilities, fridge, coffee maker & plenty of tea & coffee. There was a shower but no bath. The next morning there was a free buffet breakfast & although the breakfast room was a little cramped to say the least, there was a decent range of food including hot & cold stuff. It's not the Ritz, but for $60 it was great value. In addition we had free wireless internet access which meant that we could both use our laptops at the same time & at no charge. My husband went back a few days later as he'd forgotten his gloves & waited ages going & returning for the shuttle bus which is nowhere near as frequent as many of the other hotels near SFO so this is a downside & if you're leaving very early in the morning then the free breakfast may be of no consequence. But if you're not in a hurry then if you can get this place for $60 it's a bargain.

During this two week stay in san francisco we stayed in 6 different hotels. We got an excellent rate through Hotwire and the value for money (we paid less than $50/night) was better than any other hotel, even though it was a few miles from downtown. Breakfast was great, internet access in the room and parking were free.
