Just returned from a trip from San Francisco to LA. En route to LA we wanted to visit Hearst Castle and chose to stay at Cambria. Called on spec at hotel and what a great stroke of luck.

We got a garden view room (not sure about the garden view mind) with 2 queen beds for only round about $130. The room was great - nice size, immaculately clean, good furnishings and comfortable bed. Breakfast was good, bagles, cereal, waffles, fruit and pastries.

It was cold at night when we were there so it was great to have a fireplace in the room, which not only warmed the room up in the evening but also made it feel really cosy.

The location was great, only 5-10 minutes up the road to visit Hearst Castle (which is definately worth a visit). The hotel is right across the road from the beach which has a nice boardwalk running along it.

Would definately stay here again and recommend it to friends.

we drove up the coast from san diego with the final destination to san francisco. we didn't make a reservation b/c we didn't know where we would stop for the night so we didn't want to commit. i did however checked out some rates @ different places so i'd have an idea of what to expect. we decided on cambria for it's quaintness and beautiful local. we called the FOG CATCHER INN when we arrived on moonstone beach. lucky for us, they had available rooms. but the front desk guy quoted a higher rate for the rooms than what i found on their web site. when i told him so, he honored the lower rate even though that was a web site rate. he was very friendly and accommodating. the hotel is directly across from the beach, all the rooms have cute little fire places and complimentary breakfast . the location couldn't have been better and we had a wonderful stay. we were sorry to leave the next day. next time, we'll stay longer.

We arrived at the Inn in the early evening. The type of room I had booked (king bed/garden view) were all taken we were told so they upgraded us to an ocean view room. I found out later this room was $70 more than the one I paid for so it was a very nice upgrade. The staff at the desk were extremely friendly and informative. The room was very nice and included a refrigerator and gas fireplace. Was a very pleasant surprise! There was also a pool and hot tub but unfortunately we didn't have time to take advantage of those. There is a lovely boardwalk along the beach which we did take advantage of. The town is very small but cute but the reason we stayed there was to go to the Hearst Castle and then hit some wineries in Paso Robles. Overall was a wonderful experience.

I actually did not stay here. My fiance and I were scouting some places to stay for our up coming wedding and this one got good reviews and looked great on their website so we decided to check it out. First of all, they never responded to my email. When we got to the inn it the staff was really nice and took us for a tour. The rooms were small and the decor was "country cottage" style but it felt cliche and not inviting and cozy. They first took us to a "Garden View," but the only thing you can see from the window is a busted wooden fence separating the property from the next. If they didn't pump it up as a garden view it wouldn't have been nearly as disappointed. The ocean view was nice but it's not something you can't get at all the other inns on the strip.

The location along the road in Moonstone beach is great. While we can not compare with other properties in the area, we were very satisfied with our stay at the Fogcatcher. The service was not only good, but also warm and welcoming.

The most basic thing a hotel has to provide is a good night sleep, and this one was excellent. At least our room was well insulated from any noise, and we had a good rest.

Walking on the beach in the morning, before breakfast was great.

Temperature control with the gas fireplace is a bit tricky, do not set it too high, as it takes time for it to warm up the room.

The pool was great. Just the right temperature of the water so that it is not too warm or cold. The bathrobes provided are good for getting out of the pool when it is windy.
