Usually I stay at the Creekside Inn while in Cambria (I go there about every six months), but this time I decided to do something different - plus I got a good rate here, thanks to Travelzoo.
I like the Creekside Inn because I enjoy staying in town and having everything within walking distance. Because I live in Half Moon Bay, I am used to having the ocean close to me, so it wasn't important for me to be at the shore - but I liked the looks of the Inn online, plus the idea of having my own small patio to enjoy.
-Clean, clean, clean. Absolutely no problems with cleanliness of the room, grounds, patio, or bathroom.
-Excellent service at check-in.
-Across the street from the ocean
-Pool and spa. They had some great padded lounge chairs.
-Grounds - the flowers and shrubs were absolutely beautiful! Someone takes lot of time to get them right.
-Continental breakfast (but more under "Minuses")
-Bathroom - someone had taken the time to paint a nice lighthouse on a wooden panel on the bathroom cabinet (see picture, sorry for my finger in it). Nice touch. The towels were of good quality and the bathroom itself was sparkling clean.
-Cute little patio outside my room. Small, but big enough for two people to sit. Very private area on the opposite side of the door to the room - no one can see in.
-Bed mattresses were HARD. I had a room with two beds, and during my struggle to get comfortable, I switched to the other bed, hoping it was better - not much. Kind of like sleeping on a brick.
-Continental breakfast (this is just a small minus) - OK, when I get up in the morning, I want some serious coffee. When I walked into the office to get my morning fix, I saw the dinky coffee cups, looked around for something bigger, then turned around and walked out - and drove to the bakery for a latte. I know, I know, it's great that they even have a Continental breakfast, however I don't think I've ever seen cups that small. Well, maybe I have. The rest of the breakfast looked pretty good, although I had read about boiled eggs - but there were no boiled eggs there on Monday morning and I got there when they opened. Perhaps they are only served on weekends? Since I am trying to stick to my South Beach diet, that was disappointing.
-Be careful if you're a light sleeper - as others have mentioned here, you definitely want to stay away from the rooms near the pool. I had earplugs with me, so it didn't bother me but there was some noise.
All in all, it was a nice little hotel. I'm a walker and I truly enjoyed my lengthy walk on Monday morning before I left. Would I stay there again? Not sure. Again, I like being in central Cambria but that's a matter of personal taste.
If you're a light sleeper, request a room that is away from the pool.
