This was one of very few B&B experiences and my first time to Cambria - I was not disappointed! The Ollalieberry Inn was everything good I imagined a Bed and Breakfast would be - warm staff, homey, beautiful garden outside to hang out in. Incredibly good breakfast. I came with two kids - 18 mo. old and 10 year old daughter so we stayed in the suite (I think it was called "Creekside") in the cottage separate from the house. It was really cute and very spacious. Fireplace, outside deck, antiquey furniture - very charming and I found it quite peaceful and quiet. There were cookies in the room that were delicious and my daughter loved that. Everyone else I spoke with seemed to enjoy the Inn - only complaints I heard were about the rooms in the main house being noisy (i.e., you could hear through walls somewhat). A couple said they switched rooms too due to bathroom being down the hall in downstairs room. For us, it was a wonderful experience and I'd highly recommend the Inn!

Their website allows you to see a picture of each room so you can choose where you want to stay. We stayed in the Angel's Nook room and really liked it. The fireplace is a great amenity! It warmed the room really well. Even though we went in June, it was really chilly at night and we needed a jacket and long pants. The bed was comfortable, too.

The wine and hors d'oerves were alright. The breakfast the next morning was really good, but my husband said it didn't fill him up.

This is a very peaceful and relaxing place. I enjoyed sitting outside in the garden and reading.

This is a great place to stay for a night.

“Poor Reception and Strange Breakfast”

On arrival mid afternoon we were observed parking our car by a female in the rear garden who turned out to be a member of staff. We made our way to the front door and rung the bell, twice. Eventually, the door opened and shortly after the face of the female from the garden popped her head around it then back in again without comment. After a few seconds the door was opened completely and after introducing herself the female took us into a room/office just inside the door and immediately asked for payment there and then by credit card before even showing us our room or the rest of the house. Half way through this procedure she left without explanation, apparently to greet some other new arrivals, returning likewise with no apology. We were then given a cursory visit to the dining room before being shown to our room, given instructions on how to work the fireplace and left. The room was clean but depressingly dark. There was no shower but an antique style bath tub instead with a hair catcher in the plug hole - unfortunately this was not drawn to our attention and resulted in one of us taking a bath with the taps still running as the bathplug inserted on top of the hair catcher did not stop water escaping from the bath. Hardly the relaxing bath anticipated and a bit ironic consider the abundance of notices urging water conservation! The staff at breakfast were far more friendly but a bit overbearing. Instead of presenting breakfast then leaving us to eat it they hovered around the table glowingly praising their own home baking and the ingedients used in it. The fruit juice, which was delicious, was kept tantalizingly in view in the adjoining kitchen until half way through the meal? The home baking consisted of tiny olalliberry cookies (2 inch diameter) which were tasty but nowhere near as good as our host had tried to convince us. The single cookie each was delivered at the start of the breakfast before the cooked meal and despite some comments suggesting that another would be welcome no more were forthcoming. Due to the layout of the breakfast table we were were seated in behind it before realising that we should have helped ourselves to the coffee pot at the other side of the room before sitting down. As none of the staff offered to fetch coffee we had to ask another guest seated near the coffee pot to pour some and hand it over the table; likewise when we required refills. This was probably the poorest service we have received at a bed and breakfast establishment in the USA in 16 years of visiting the country. How on earth they were given an award (proudly on display in the dining room) as the 'best bed and breakfast in the world' is a mystery to me. Needless to say, the 'Tips for Staff' envelope placed by the bedside on arrival was left empty.

This was our first bed and breakfast experience. We loved it! We stayed here overnight on our way up highway 1 to San Francisco. We called the innkeepers at 5:00 p.m. to let them know we were going to arrive late, and we ended up getting in at 1:30 a.m. They left our key with instructions on how to get to our room for us. The next morning, we were treated to a delicious breakfast of creme brulee french toast, scrambled eggs, potatoes, fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee, fruit, and olallieberry yogurt. The innkeepers were super friendly and hospital. They greeted us by name, even though we didn't check in with them the day before. They can even make reservations for you. We heard the wine and hors-doerve hour the day before was relaxing and yummy. The grounds were peaceful and quaint, with a small creek at the bottom of the hill in the back. You can't get to it though. You can just look at it from the garden. We stayed in the Creekside Suite, and the suite was very nice and clean. The chocolate chip cookies that were waiting for us were delicious. The only bad thing about the room was that we can hear our neighbors above us take a shower. There was free wireless internet - a plus. The inn is just a 5 minute walk into the small town of Cambria. Overall, we had a good experience and will likely return here someday.

“Beautiful Inn, Wonderful Inn Keepers, BUT NOISY!”

Olallieberry Inn

First of all, we stayed in the Santa Rosa room. This was the least expensive room and only one available when we booked it. The bathroom is down the hall, and in the morning, it required us to walk through the breakfast/common area to use the restroom. That was embarrassing! Worst of all, the walls of the room were so thin that we listened to someone snore next to us all through the night. Every step a person makes upstairs can be clearly heard, making the night absolutely impossible to sleep. However, the inn keepers are very kind and hospitable. The grounds are gorgeous, and the inn has charm. The food is very good. It depends how easily you can sleep with noise, and whether or not the bathroom situation would bother you, whether this inn would suit your needs.
