A few days of nice weather at the end of January called us to Capitola for a short getaway. This was our fifth stay at the Inn at Depot Hill, and it was as nice as all the others have been. It's a beautiful place. All the rooms have great character, it's spotlessly clean, and it's a five-minute walk down to Capitola beach. On this visit, we stayed in the Railroad Baron room. It's a great room, but there are a couple of small flaws. The heat is controlled by a thermostat downstairs, and the room gets a bit too hot with the afternoon sun. If it gets too hot, ask the staff to turn down the thermostat! We also love the big soaking tub, but it's actually a bit tight for two. For the best soaking tub, go for the Kyoto room. As always, the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfasts continue to be excellent, the snacks in the late afternoon were nice, and a glass of port in the evening capped it off perfectly. If you are going out to the Shadowbrook for dinner, ask the staff to make your reservation, and you'll get a free small appetizer. A small bonus for us with our new electric car: The big public parking lot, which is a two minute walk from the Inn (cross the railway tracks and turn left) has EV charging stations.
