This is the place for a perfect Southern California beach vacation! We live in San Diego County and typically spend a few days at the beach each summer with visiting family. Our favorite dog-friendly place in Coronado was full, so we decided to call Ocean Palms Beach Resort. The only room available during our requested time was the Luxury Tahitian Suite. It was pricey, but so worth it!
They are not kidding when they say luxury; the suite had it's own little "yard" with a BBQ and a patio with a hot tub. The bathroom was ahh-mazing, complete with a TV, granite, jacuzzi tub and THREE shower heads in the shower. The full kitchen had granite, a stainless oven, fridge, table and even a separate wine fridge. While we overspent a bit on the price of the room, we more than made up for it by being able to cook and prepare meals, snacks and drinks right in our own suite, rather than eating every meal out. It was during the Olympics, so the large, flat-panel TVs were welcome. We didn't use the gas fireplace, but it would be cozy, for sure. It was perfect for two adults, three teens and two dogs. There's even a friendly resident cat that walks around to greet all the guests in common areas. We were literally just steps from the beach and all that Carlsbad Village has to offer. As a note, we had driven to Carlsbad Beach the previous weekend and spent nearly an hour trying to find parking, and we ended up way, way south schlepping boogie boards, towels, snacks, etc. down the road, so the convenience of being right in the middle of a beach town - and able to walk to everything - was a big (and very welcome) contrast.
Something that really sets Ocean Palms apart is their professional but friendly customer service. Everyone you encounter, from out call to book the room, to check-in, towel service and housekeeping, was super-helpful and nice.
Our teens may have put it best. They said it was like living in a beautiful little dream beach community. A peek here and there into other rooms - nearly all have split "Dutch doors" so you can open the top and leave the bottom closed - revealed similarly modern decor, lighting and amenities to our suite. The grounds include large common areas for guest to sit and enjoy three fire pits, a stone fireplace, plenty of comfortable tables and chairs, pretty potted plants, BBQs, a nice pool and jacuzzi area and even a putting green. You can check out plushy towels to take to the beach or pool, and there's a convenient outdoor shower to rinse off the sand before you head back to your room. They've put a lot of thought, care and heart into this beautiful mini-resort in the heart of Carlsbad, and we can't wait to go again. A friend stopped by for a Saturday morning run and now she wants to stay there, too.
The staff asked upon our departure if we had any feedback or issues - the only issue was that we never wanted to leave! If you are looking for a cozy, casual and chic beach stay, this is your place.
The rooms that face the beach are just steps to the sand across a two-lane road. It's fun to jus...
