“Great Location”

Sonoran Suites of San Diego

Can I just say WOW! My husband and I have just returned home with our two boys from a spring break vacation to San Diego. We stayed with Sonoran Suites located just a few miles from Lego Land. We had a traffic day there with the boys. Although a little cold,
we also enjoyed several days at the beach. My husband was able to get away for a round of golf that Sonoran Suites set up for him, this was very helpful for us since we didn’t know the area. We truly enjoyed the suite that we stayed in because I was able to keep snacks for the boys in the fridge and even cooked a couple of meals. The amenities at the property were great, the pool was crystal clear and the hot tub was set at the perfect temperature, I would have liked to have a unit closer to the pool but what are you going to do. The housekeepers came through in the middle of the day halfway into our stay as not to bother us. It nice to return to a clean freshened suite after running around all day. We appreciate all that was done for us and will have to use this company again.

First of all, this is not a resort. Sonoran Suites rents you an apartment in a huge apartment complex in Carlsbad. Their web site leads you to believe it is a nice resort - this is false advertising at its best. You will not be staying in a resort condo - instead, it is a unit in an apartment building. There is no one onsite to help you if you have problems. The unit smelled smokey and had old bits of food on the carpet when we arrived. The beds are extremely uncomfortable, the linens are itchy, and the comforters did not look clean. Speaking of linens, we were overcharged for a few towels that they claim we removed from the unit (of course we did no such thing). I have called Sonoran Suites several times regarding the charges, and no one has returned my calls. They claim that their housekeepers inventory everything and that towels were missing. They would not even stop to consider that maybe the person taking inventory had made a mistake. Beware of this place. I wish I had read the reviews others wrote before putting out such a large amount of money for such a horrible experience. I am most disappointed with the corporate office and the unprofessionalism of the managers and employees.

“Unfair Management Practices”

The Staff At Sonoran Suites Unjustly Charged My Family And I For Missing Towels Following Our Stay And Refused To Allow Me Access To Address This Accusation With Management. I Requested To Speak To The Manager Or To Have Him Call Or E-Mail Me And They Refused. They Require Credit Card Information Kept On File And The Same Day We Checked Out They Billed Me For Three Missing Towels. There Was No Method Upon Check-In To Verify Quantities Of Towels And Upon Check-Out They Rely On The Feedback From A House Cleaner. We Paid Well Over $1,500 For Four Nights And They Treat Us In This Way. Totally Unprofessional!

Pros: 6 minute drive to Legoland. Good sized two bedroom apartment.

Cons: This is not a hotel. You are using an apartment in an apartment complex. There are notes on every surface stating what you will be fined for: $50.00 fine for not turning the lights out, more fines if you leave dirty dishes, wash towels with other towels etc. Sonoran Suites has a guility until proven innocent approach to dealing with customers.

You cannot cancel--unless you do not mind losing 50% of entire rental fee. The person who took my money did not quite mention there is no staff on site. I received that information later.

If you have problems, there is no one there and when you phone you are treated rudely by confused staff.

The pool was closed entire time we stayed--again not Sonoran Suites problem. If you have kids--no pool is a HUGE disappointment.

Pitbull barking all night--we'll get back to you. No one ever called-- I had to phone again.

Even easy to manage tasks are poorly done. The person who wrote our email instructions for letting yourself into the complex used the # sign in front of all numbers. We could not figure out how to even get in through the gate. After making yet another phone call we were told in this case the # was part of the code! When you are on vacation you really do not want to be dealing with these sort of ridiculous problems.

Beds are squishy soft--way too much in my opinion. Decorating style is quasi southwestern, with rustic (inexpensive) furniture.

I found it amusing when they sent a customer satisfacton survey. I asked them to phone me so I could tell them all of the issues we had. No one ever called. Not much of a surprise there.

Management Response

Sonoran Suites has never advertised itself as a hotel. We take pride in the fact that we are a “condo- style” vacation rental. Regarding the signage though out the unit stating fines: We only ask as a courtesy that you turn off the lights and a/c prior to departure, you will not be fined if neither is done. Again regarding putting away dirty dishes and cleaning the unit. We do not ask for a clean unit upon departure, we ask that dished are put in the dishwasher and run and that unit is not a complete mess. We do not expect the guest to do laundry or clean the unit, we do have housekeepers that clean the entire unit after the guest has departed.
The cancellation policy should have been clearly stated upon making a reservation. If that was not discussed, the cancellation policy is started in our Guest Policies. Which is received right after a reservation is made. If a reservation is made by an outside online party, the guest will have to contact the reservation agent to obtain a cancellation policy.
All guests will receive an 888 number to call during business and non business hours. If there is an emergency after normal business hours guests will be directed to three “after hours” emergency numbers. All emergency will be taken care of in a timely manor by calling theses numbers.
Unfortunately at the time of this guest stay the pool was undergoing yearly cleaning ad repair. This was done for the upcoming summer season. Sonoran Suites dose not have any control over the pool being closed but will try to find alternate facilities for a guest if the amenities are undergoing service.
Sonoran Suites does pride itself on being very customer service friendly and will try to fix any problems in a very timely manor. Our staff has a combined 90 years of customer service and hospitality experience. We will help our guest through any situation the whole stay with us.

Stayed here in March as part of a golf holiday. The units were very clean, modern, and well equipped. The location allowed for good access to the courses we were playing. We made good use of the pool, hot tub, and BBQs. The beds were small, but comfortable, and provided a good nights sleep! Located close to I-5, downtown San Diego and La Jolla are just a quick drive south. LA is also easily accessble to the north. A nice bonus was the canyon view each morning as the sun was rising over the horizon. I would definately stay here again.
