We only had a short time to spend here, but great spot to watch the sea lions and seals. The cypress trail is also so gorgeous - stunning views as every corner and very beautiful trees. Don't miss this park! Spend more time there than we did!

Ok.. if 2 adults with some slightly extra *cough* padding can make these hikes(puff puff) with a teenager and an energetic 7 yr old in tow...then most people can. We only had time to take a few strolls but the views were worth it. Please make the time to visit this park and spend the day here. pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the the beauty. It is breathtaking. it is only a short drive from Monterey and Carmel. The emerald colored waters of China cove are spectacular. And we also enjoyed bird island and seeing the mansions perched on the cliffs opposite of us (they were probably looking out their windows wondering who those "puffy" landlubbers were while enjoying their afternoon tea.
Time.. We needed more time! Next year we hope to make a trip up through the central coast up Big Sur and end it in Monterey.
We were not able to enjoy it as much as we wanted to because we only had a couple of hours. Make time to enjoy this park and take your time to enjoy it.
It was great even for the 2 hours we were there. It is also good exercise.
Pt Lobos is great - both above the water and underneath!
The cost to park inside the park is $9. But there is quite a bit of parking available along the road before you enter, and you can walk in and get a map for $1.00. Or for those older than $62, you can get in for $5.
I can't begin to describe the beautiful rocky scenery - a couple weeks ago we saw whales, seals, sea lions, otters and deer within a 2-hour hike!
As far as diving, you have to make reservations on their website. If you can stand the 55 degree water, you'll see some great kelp!
We spent 2 or 3 hours here on the way from Monterey to Cambria in mid-September 2005, but could easily have spent longer. After the heavily built-up and busy 17 Mile Drive in Monterey (where you often couldn't reach the sea at all, due to fences and private houses), Point Lobos was a real treat - unspoilt beaches, cliffs, woodland - really atmospheric. Take a picnic - no cafes on site, but restrooms and picnic areas.
