We called Horizon on a Friday night hoping that they would relax the "two night minimum stay on weekends" policy that seems to plague Carmel since we only needed a place for Saturday night. They did, and they are pet friendly!!

Upon being offered two choices of rooms, one "standard queen" and one suite with jacuzzi, we opted for the $160 standard room. We showed up and were directed to an annex across the street from the main hotel. We were assigned room #206 (or maybe it was #207). WOW!!! Considering the fair price (relatively speaking, Carmel is very expensive) we were expecting Motel 6 and were given a great room!! We had a very sunny room with a balcony with a distant (but clear) ocean view, super comfy queen bed with nice linens, a mini fridge, and were shocked when we opened our door in the morning to find an picnic basket full of breakfast goodies and the newspaper at our door.

This place is great and I would highly recommend it.

Never being in Carmel, Ca. and only trusting my website searches, I ventured out and booked the Horizon Inn. Upon our arrival we were greeted by a very helpful person at the front desk. OUr room had a partial ocean view, it was large, had a sofa, table and chairs, large bathroom, w/seperate shower and toilet area, large sink and counter area and a lot of storage drawers for clothing etc. The one thing that I have to comment on was the huge lighted magnifying mirror in the bathroom. It was wonderful not tohave to struggle applying make-up, but most of all inserting my contact lenses. This to me was the ultimate amenity. The continental breakfast that was dropped at our door step each morning in a picnic basket was enough fuel to get us started. Every day there was a different treat other than the granola and fruit there was a bagel, or quiche, or breakfast treat along w/freshly squeezed orange juice. There was a coffemaker in the room, microwave, mini refrigerator which helped tremendously. . We were in walking distance to all shops. Restaurants were all around us.. I would highly recommend this inn to everyone. The rooms were very clean, the bedding was perfect, thick towels, and comfortable pillows. We had our own balcony where we would sit and enjoy the view. Do not hesitate to book this hotel. We will continue to stay there on our vists to the Northern coast.

We stayed in Room 205 (Ocean View Lodge) on Father's Day weekend. We brought our 2 girls, ages 3.5 and 5 yrs. This hotel worked out GREAT for us. The suite is more like an apartment. A funky knotty pine kitchen, dining area with table and 4 chairs, brick fireplace, really large living room with pull out couch (plenty of room for pack n play or roll away), TV and then a king bed in the bedroom (another TV). We enjoyed sitting outside on the little patio while the girls played on the lawn. We also enjoyed having a fire on a chilly Carmel summer night. The basket they deliver for breakfast was a bonus. Granola, milk, juice, pastry or bagel and fruit. No need to go out. Bruno's Market down the street is a good place to pick up a few groceries and wine. They have a good deli too.

There is a city playground/park less than two blocks down the street. We discovered BBQ pits in the adjacent city parking lot. Did not use, but thought it was a good option.

I would recommmend driving to the beach, as the hike up the hill might be too tiring after playing on the beach. I am a Carmel native, and have stayed in lots of hotels in Carmel. We all agreed that we would come back and stay at this hotel- lots of room for your dollar. They give AAA discount.

“Ocean View?”

Horizon Inn & Ocean View Lodge

7 Jul 2007

We stayed here for three days. The premises are nice. The room was clean.

However, the ocean view---well, the ocean is a long ways away. Our view was a six foot wall surrounded the patio--like the D block at Alcatrez--you couldn't see a thing.....you would have to stand on the lawn chair and then you would see the roof! The continental breakfast basket delivered to your door was nice....it was varied each day--there is microwaves and small frigs in the rooms...that helps....gas fireplace. Nice walking distance to downtown.
