My wife, daughter and I decided to stay at the Carmel Valley Ranch (CMR) for 4 days during our trip in June 2008. We stayed in the Veranda Suite that turned out to be a great choice. Having a separate living room from the bedroom gave us space to spread out. Both rooms had a TV and a wood burning fireplace. The fireplaces have gas to get the logs going, and then you turn off the gas and enjoy the wood. They replace the wood each day but have bins of wood throughout the property so you can keep a fire going as long as you like.
The suite we were in on up a slight hill, so the bell man met us at our car with an oversize golf cart and drove us and our luggage to the room.
The restaurant and bar were great, but a little pricey. Room service was a little pricey as well.
The main pool by the main lodge was small, but nice. The hot tub near the room was the same, small, but nice. Deer roam the property and came near the suites every day. There were many moths flying around in June. It made it hard to sit on the balcony because they were everywhere, but we were told they are only here in June, which just happened to be the time we picked to visit.
Compared to the room rates in Carmel and Monterey, we got a lot for the price. The only issue we had is the $25.00 per day fee they add to cover tips for all hotel services except the restaurant, golf and tennis shops. I didn’t get $25.00 worth of services each day, so this mandatory resort fee was a little absurd.
All in all, I would definitely come back and the resort was comfortable, quiet and a quick trip (10 – 20 minutes) to Carmel, Pebble Beach and Monterey.
